Arena, Cleveland, Ohio, United States
Jake LaMotta L Lloyd Marshall UD 10 10

"Some of the fans thought LaMotta's closing rush had given him the edge".

Id love to know where this boxrec blurb came from because I have the Cleveland write ups of this battle and the read very clearly that Lloyd pinned Jakes ears back for 9 rounds.

I didn't write that blurb, but I'm pretty sure I came across the article that it was from at one point. It was featured in a New York paper, either the Times or the Daily News. That article had Marshall winning the first 7 rounds and LaMotta taking the last three, as I recall. I'm pretty sure I still have that clipping, but I'd have to dig it up.

MARSHALL GETS DECISION
New York Times (1857-Current file); Apr 22, 1944;
ProQuest Historical Newspapers The New York Times (1851 - 2006)

cleveland lt hvy defeats la motta in ten

lloyd marshall of sacramento and cleveland

jake was not his usual rough housing self in the early rounds and fought from a crouch, while lloyd did the leading. Marshal took the first eight rounds on the ap scorecard and lamotta took the final two as he launched a two fisted attack on his tiring opponent.
Marshall 160 1/4lbs Lamotta 158 1/2 lbs

Jake was a fighter you were never safe to bet on.

For example his fake with Billy Fox.

He had another loss by decision to Cecil Hudson that stunk to high heavens.
