Who had the best CHIN of all time? (not p4p)

I left out Clay cos many people will vote him for the wrong reasons. Even tho he had a gr8 chin he didnt have the best IMO he had gr8 recovery and heart. I also left out Tyson for the same reason. Rocky Marciano came close but again with him it was more heart. And the likes of Lamota or Hagler I dont think can match up with the HW fighters.

Chuvalo gets my vote.
It is absolutely amazing that Chuvalo is still mentally sharp, judging from the youtube videos I have seen of him in recent years.

It's a somewhat soft line-up, though.
Foreman, Frazier, Holmes & the like are not realistic contenders for the best chin of any HW.

Look at the shots Forman took from Holyfield and the hard hitting Tommy Morrison. Also Frazier took many bombs from Forman b4 being stoped. I think Holmes is prolly one of the softer chins here but still a GREAT chin.

To include the likes of Thomas, Frazier, Klitschko and Foreman and exclude Ali is ridiculous.

No it's not. If I put Ali in this poll he would get to many unjustified votes from Ali fanatics. Also the left hook from Henry Cooper that flattened him, I strongly feel would not of floored Chuvalo, Mercer, Mcall or dare I say it Klitchko. Ali had a great chin no doubt about it. But certainly not top 5 in my book. Maybe top ten. And yea maybe Ali did have a better chin then Pinklon Thomas or Joe frazier. Maybe.

What was Vitali doing at 21 years old? Oh yeah getting knocked out by Maskaev in the AMs . . .
Cooper had a helluva punch despite his small size. Getting put down when you are 21 to a top ranked puncher does not erase taking flush punches from the likes of Foreman, Shavers, Liston, Frazier, Quarry, Lyle etc. and never getting close to getting stopped. Ali proved an ATG chin vs the very best. I don't have a problem with people putting McCall or Chuvalo above him but to deny him inclusion and put in Vitali, Thomas, and Witherspoon is insane.

Listen Dempsey I sed b4 y I did't include Ali.. Cos of the fanatatics. The guy is way overrated as a boxer. Thats my opinion. You've already admited that he don't have the whiskers of Chuvalo or Mcall so vote for one of them.

To not include a legitimate candidate in an analysis, because of possible or perceived bias is oxymoronic.
Which gas would you most prefer to breathe?....I'm going to leave oxygen out because I know most people will flock to it.
A. Nitrogen
B. Hydrogen
C. Helium
D. Carbon Monoxide
E. Chlorine.
F. Nitric Oxide
OK....I like Chuvalo on that list I guess. And I suppose it won't kill me to make that choice.

I wouldn't have voted for Ali but his chin was clearly better than some of the fighters on the list. An older, easier to hit Ali took Shavers' punch better than a prime Holmes did. Ali was very young when he fought Cooper and became bigger and stronger with age, Holmes was dropped by a no name in his early days as are many fighters.
The term "overrated" is becoming overrated on boxing forums, it is over-used to the point of becoming meaningless.
I voted for Chuvalo, McCall has just as good a case.

We have a different interpretation of the term, 'chin,' then. To me, if someone can't knock you down with their best shots, & they're a noted hitter, that is
chin.
If a heavy puncher repeatedly knocks you down, & you get up over & over, & never quit, that is
heart & recuperative ability. They are not the same. Frazier had a very good (not outstanding, & absolutely not a serious chance of being best of all-time) chin & all-time great recovery capabilities & heart. You might also have included Jeffries in this list, but that's up to you.
The answer to the question, is Chuvalo. Irrespective of any list.

How do you nuance the difference between "chin" and another event? I'm thinking a man has prolonged dizziness when this is in question VS "Balance"...you get knocked off your feet from a forceful punch, but you don't go the least bit groggy. Or do you bother to mince these conditions? Off your feet is off your feet? and thus chin?.....so Wepner's toe steppin KD of ALI is the same as Kostya's artwork of Zab Judah's "out on your dancin' feet moment? It appeared that Frazier did NOT have Ali groggy. Nor did Briscoe have Monzon groggy......(one nanosecond caught in a single frame? seems questionable) Ali admitted that Foreman had him "almost out" "standing" but unless your Ali....you don't notice it. This seems hard to calculate. Would Duran's one time out vs Hearns take him off the list? Or was "No Mas" a chinny moment?
Chuvalo would have eventually succumbed to George...but who wouldn't? Did Tua or McCall ever display a groggy moment ....well in the ring? I don't think so.
If your down from a liver shot....not chin? I'm assuming not. But you're just as floored.

Man, you do this in every thread, with every subject...you tie yourself into an unending knot, & then go nowhere trying to untangle it.
What did you say in that other thread about keeping it simple?

Foreman version 2.0 had a much better chin than
Foreman version 1.alpha.

Goodnight Irene.....I think my simple point is. Define "chin". Just define it for me damn it....Or I'll just keep wanderin' wonderin' what the hell people are talkin' 'bout. Want me to do it? I think it's the quality of being separated from your senses...and it does not have much to do with fallin' down.
But that's nearly impossible to measure....
So I'm guessin' our way to measure is....did you fall down...or didn't you. Thus Wepner KD of ALI is = Kostya KD of Tzsyu. Which renders the conversation difficult for my simple mind.

Fair play to the poster for taking the time to put together that list and no doubt whoever had done it, would have attracted crtiscism.
Can't say I would vote for any on that list, but my definition of having a good chin probably varies with yours. I am assuming you mean taking punches and not falling down?
Nonetheless, will encourage debate :)

First I looked for Cobb.
Then Ali.
Then I realised it was a newbie wind-up.
