In over 50 fights Wlad has never been knocked down and out! Never! Against Brewster he gassed out! Same wiv Purrity! And Sanders just had his number that night, which reminded me of when Bonecrusher won via 1st round KO over Spoon in da 80s. But Wlad still got up after being hit clean by a power puncher untill he got beat down. Wlads chin is better then anyone on this list.

The only reason Wlad never heard a 10 count is b/c the ref or his corner saved him before it could get that far. Wlad has been down 12 times in his career in an era when no ref would ever let a guy go down 7 times like Patterson did in the first Johansson fight. I've seen few fighters react so poorly to any flush shots like Wladimir does, but to his credit he's developed a defensive style which exploits his height and reach effectively (albeit vs poor comp) so he rarely gets hit flush by power punches.

Yeah, I'm with you. I think Patterson gets a little bit of a bum rap, though, in this regard. He was never a true Heavyweight, & was never built to take their punches. Still, he made his bed by fighting in that weightclass, I guess.

Leon has been KOed 9x compared to 4x by Hide, the most of any major heavy champ. Moreover, he was KOed by a rank 35 yr old novice in his debut seconds after the fight started, obliterated before he could even blink. Jack Johnson was KOed 7x in his career as a defensive specialist, particularly egregious being KOed by a middleweight at the start of his career and a featherweight of no account in his last fight. OK, he was 59-60 yrs old, but still, he was issuing challenges to Joe Louis and then a damn feather bowled him over.

Patterson must of been down 50x both official KDs and slips. Joe Louis at least 20x, but Joe only counted out twice, bookended at the beginning and end of his reign as a top heavy.

Only one fight did Wlad go down and get hurt by punches, the Sanders fight 5x. 2 of the 3x against Peter were blatant uncalled fouls, and then one here and there, not being saved by the ref or his corner any more than Ali was.

So 33 yr old Wlad in some good company with 33 yr old Joe Louis as far as number of fights and KDs and KO% go. Just thought I'd point that out to counter your selections I've knocked down for the count.

BRR, Leon wiped himself out.....I lived in St Louis during their up and coming years, Mike and Leon got started on the same track, both were doing pretty well. One managed his life well, the other not so much. Leon was a near serious kamikaze case. Do you have room in your analysis kit for "anomaly"? Not sure anyone can tell just how good an arm wrestler a man may or may not become if he goes and cuts off his own arm.

Sort of takes him out of the sample pool in terms of "trends". Unless you can properly factor in "chaos". And I've been keepin' an eye on your calculus....and my suggestion to you is "keep it simple".

Hide had a very bad chin thats why I think he has no chance of being CW champ now!

This annoys me. Frank Bruno actually had a very good chin, his problem was running out of steam and the inability to hold or move out the way of punches. His actual ability to take a punch was very good, just watch how many clean shots Tyson hit him with in their first fight when he was on the ropes and he was still standing.

Bruno gets a hard time by a lot of boxing people. He was winning the fights against Smith, Witherspoon and Lewis and was arguably the first fighter to really shake Tyson (1st round hook). His ko ratio was very high (38kos in 40 wins), he had a ramrod jab and his right hand could trouble any fighter.

The Bruno and glass jaw argument just doesn't hold up if you ask me. He was never ko'd by one punch, and was rarely floored by a punch. He was either stopped on his feet or went down out of sheer exhaustion. His pure muscle mass didn't help him stamina wise and that was his downfall, not his chin.

I think Bruno's chin was okay, not glass, not iron... The problem was that he didn't seem to have great recuperative powers and he also had no strategies to deal with moments when he was hurt. So often he'd just stand there taking shot after shot before toppling. A few survival techniques might have seen him hold out against Smith and take the win.

Exactly my point. He didn't know how to hold on or sway away from punches, he was far too stiff. That was his problem, and running out of steam. He could actually take a good punch it was the other problems that ended up with him getting stopped.

i would say patterson as he went down the most out of every heavyweight champion

Herbie Hide went down for 14 seconds, and was seriously hurt when Riddick Bowe's bicep slapped the side of the head going into a clinch.

If that isn't the weakest punch resistance of all time, I don't know what is.

Yeah, that was pretty sad to watch. Especially after Hide seemed to be too quick and actually hurt Bowe early on.

Of course, I recall Seldon going down a few times without actually being hit...

I didn't want to say this because I suspected my mind was playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember Hide having short-lived success against both Bowe and Vitali before getting crushed.

Jumbo was a huge puncher though and he landed his best punch flush on Bruno's chin. He done well to stay on his feet if you ask me and considering that happened in the very 1st round it does show Bruno could recover and win fights.

With you there mate, Klitschko knocked him down with a punch to the shoulder. They guy actually thinks he's the two time heavyweight champion of the world, drives me nuts when I think about it.
