It's a 5 part series so follow the links, and who knows, might include a never before seen clip of the Jack Johnson fight up in Saskatoon.......... 8)

Superior combo of cleaned up established footage of relevant period fighters that traces an overview of his career. From the way Jack pounces to blast out the heavy bag on the AM of the Willard fight to the easy manner the grinning Willard starts off his fight meaning to toy with the little shrimp, you get a better sense of the dramatic turnaround of that bout. The look of shock on Willard's face actually registers on the canvas as he looks at the ref before rolling over again when his legs betray him.

The abject ignorance slung Dempsey's way on this forum obscures that he's Ibro #4 heavy, #18 p4p, and 18th greatest fighter ever and occupies a similar status with Ring lists, putting him in rare company for heavyweights.

You talk like this is a new doc, it's part of HBO's "Boxing's Best' Series from the 1980s . . .

I see Carpentier, Gibbons--with his chin on his chest and his shoulder in front of his chin.

Notice how soon Dempsey is coming forward after the ref ends the clinch with Firpo, giving him the jump on the other fighter.

The fourth round of the first Tunney fight where Dempsey staggers Tunney with a hook on the throat and Tunney falls into the ropes, grabs the top rope to keep himself up, and then slides away, is usually cut from films of that round.

Great to see that.

And that's just the first 30 seconds.
