I know it probably sounds like "he can't win" but does anyone else think Degale now "over does" the nice guy image since his pro debut. Seems a little frightend to say anything that might be misunderstood.

I can understand why he does, it must have been such a shock to see him boo'd. Personally, I liked his pro debut performance and thought the crowd booing was a bit much.

The reason why he was booed on his debut was because of all the big talk he came out with beforehand.

All the "I'm like marmite, you'll either love me or hate me" bullshit that he was spouting came back to bite him on the ass, you remember his interview afterwards? I thought he was going to burst into tears at one point and he kept looking over to Fwank who had that "If you're gonna give it then you've gotta take it" look on his face.

Thankfully DeGale has humbled a bit and comes across as a more likable guy recently but it just goes to show you can't come out talking yourself up to be a villain and then cry about it when people heckle you.

he'll be ok under the wing of fw. He started to believe his own hype but has come down a bit now - expect a split from fw and a major arrogant rant in 5-8 years time - it's gonna happen! remember where you read it first!! :TU:

He's been on a lot of things lately...not sure about the 'nice guy' image though?
Thought he was pretty arrogant on 'Beat the star'?

I agree that his first fight was fine. The Irish crowd were reacting to the Sutherland result and don't forget, DeGale came to the ring in his Olympic vest.

Can't have been much fun getting that reaction after your first fight but it looks like its all behind him and I think things like weakest link and soccer am are no bad thing.

if you think he was gettin boo'd because of his victory over an Irishman at the Olympics then I think you are either a little naive or misguided. He was boo'd because people didnt like his attitude or the way he came across in his interviews.

Was it Irish fans booing him in Birmingham as well?

he was a let down on his pro debut.

he was content to box it and win on pts.

he's grabbed the bull by the horns in the last couple.

gone out looking to put it on his opponent. :box:

a definite future world champion for me.

lots of talent. :TU:

Probably the best of the olympians in my opinion, think he looks like he could go furthest as his style has adapted nicelty to the pro ranks... time will tell.

Lets put it in perspective. You'd have to go some to get booed before you'd thrown a puch as a pro just because of your attitude, and DeGale done nothing THAT bad except come acros very confident (he had just won a Gold medal I think). And if your goinig to get away with confidence in any sport its boxing. I think its far more likely that a few pissed up Irishmen (waiting to see an Irishman Vs an Englishman in the main event) saw DeGale come out wearing his vest fresh from beating Sutherland and decided to give him a little stick. Far less likely is a few pissed up Isishmen fresh from just seeing great stoppage win performances by both Gavin and Saunders as well as a barnstorming Irish Title fight with Sinclair and in an electric atmosphere... Turned to one another and said "Oh no, it's that brash young chap off the television. He really should conduct himself a little better. I don't like the way he comes across in interviews OR his attitude"

As for Birmingham, the press made a massive deal of the first fight and that was always going to happen.
