Witter to return at welter

On eastside, there is an article quoting Junior Witter saying he won't retire but will instead move up to welterweight.

I like watching Junior fight and think he has done remarkably well in his career by holding the WBC strap but why would he bother moving up to welter? Obviously he couldn't compete with Mosley, Williams, Pacman, Mayweather, Cotto et al so is very unlikely to feature on the world stage and I don't know why he would want to move down a level. Could Junior even be tempted to get in the ring with Kell Brook at some stage? That would be a cracker.

Hennessey should prove his worth and get Junior a shot at Isaac Hlatshwayo.

wouldnt be surprised if he got a shot at andre berto. bertos camp will probably think it will be an easy fight and witter is still a decent name

Witter was never a big Light-welter and like a lot of Ingle fighters who rely on reflexes, at a certain age it just isn't there any more. Its a shame Hatton-Witter never came off back when Witter was on that great knockout run but in anycase I wish him all the best at welterweight. As mentioned I'm sure he could get a fight with Berto as he has some name value as a former WBC champ.

as if witter could do any more to sully his profile Stateside, he goes and adds the status of being a quitter after his latest display against Alexander. I hardly think they'll be asking him back this time.

Witter won't be able to carry any power up to welterweight and I can hardly see him making any waves there. he should probably try and campaign at euro level, earn some decent paydays then get out with some health left. The way his career has gone he must surely have to fight on for awhile yet for financial reasons.

i think 25% of what witter was more than beats matty hatton unless he develops 1 punch KO power

Not a bad shout actually. This would have no trouble getting publicity and with Ricky promoting, there could be real bad blood between the two camps. Both fighters would fancy the win as well. Maybe if Junior won and Ricky was still fighting, it could even lead to a very late Junior-Ricky match up, or is that just wishful thinking

I would be surprised if Witter got a shot at anyone. His name is mud in the US.

If Witter's not going to be fighting Brook then I don't think there are any fights I'd like to see him in.

Let's not be too harsh on Witter. He's no longer world-class, but he's still way above these boys. Would be a crazy match for someone like Cox to take at this stage of his career as well.
