When will we see another freak like a Tyson or an Ali?

Will we see another freak that can bring the people back to heavywieght boxing?
Sure we have a great champion in Klitchko but he's no freak, not much of a peoples champ cos he is simply quite boring. I dont hate Klitchko he's a good boxer and I enjoy watching him but people around me would rather watch an old Tyson or Ali fight over a live Klitchko fight. A lot of people who like boxing but dont really keep up with it much, dont know that Klitchko is the champ. Back in the day people who hadnt even seen Tyson fight knew he was the champ, people in 3rd world countries that dont have T.Vs knew about Ali.

Some say boxing is a dying sport and that the heavyweight division sucks. Who will be the hero to save H.W boxing? Will we see him in our lifetime? or is that it, have all the freaks passed?

their are freaks in boxing atm but not in heavyweight and even around tysons time the heavyweights were still boring IMO the heavyweiughts arnt as entertaining as the lighter weights its like that in all fighting styles the smaller faster guys that can still KO each other are more fun to watch

hw wars are what bring the masses to boxing. That is good for the sport.

With regards to the question, I don't see anyone going through the division at the moment. However, I also would like to see how far Ben edwards can go in the local scene if he is concentrating on boxing only and has expert training.

Justin Whitehead has done a lot in a short time for a man who turned pro so late in life. Should he fight Edwards?

I know some of you might think 'oh youre dreaming', but Im sure this is your dream to..

Right now the only freak to his sport is undoubtedly Tiger Woods.

I'm beginning to think that it will never happen in my lifetime, following all the false dawns we've had.

After the likes of Shannon Briggs, Riddick Bowe, David Tua, Ike Ibeabuchi, Dominic Guinn, Michael Grant, Bert Cooper, Tyrell biggs; I could go on, but they're bringing tears to my eyes. :oo

There's some names whom big things were expected of & they turned out to be either rubbish, ill disciplined or scared of their biggest rivals! :shame:

What a real shame! :witzend:

When I read the first post on this thread, I thought about athletic "feaks" right now. The first three names that popped in my head were:

Usain Bolt - 6'5" is a huge guy for sprinting. The top guys at that level were simply not built like that guy and yet he is so dominant. I'd say freakish.

LeBron James - He had the physical features of a 30 year old man and 10 year vet of the NBA at 18 years old. He was a man-child very early not unlike Tyson.

Brock Lesnar - Huge, strong, quick, flexible. A monster of a man in college and post college career. However, again, he chose another sport rather than boxing.

My point is that we do indeed have "freaks" out there, but they simply choose to compete in other sports rather than boxing. More Money? More Glory? Not sure.

hey zojo,

did anyone tell you this is a BOXING forum?..and we discuss and ask mainly for BOXING opinions and views.
I also hinted BOXING in my heading with 'freaks like Tyson or Ali' not that anyone (besides yourself) needed to be told in fine detail that I was refferring to BOXING in a BOXING forum.

I think zojo is making a valid point in that boxing, as a sport, has a lot of competition for participants who are 'freaks'. This is probably compounded further by the fact that many competitors offer good money and are portentionally less physically demanding... there is an easier way to make a buck you might say. Bloke aren't as hungry as they once were.

All these factors could impact on when we will see another 'freak' in boxing.

oh and zojo most people that can walk mainly choose to walk rather then crawl. If you cant box but can pulloff fadeaway jumpers your not gonna box are ya?

My point is if you cant box but you can run fast like Bolt then you would pursue sprinting rather then boxing.

It sounds like your trying to say Bolt, Brock and James could have been capable of boxing feats that Ali and Tyson have achieved but they chose their respective sports instead.

So what your saying is...if Brock Lesnar started running when he was younger (rather then making people run), he would have been as fast as Bolt but hes not simply because he chose to compete in another sport...cos thats what it sounds like, read your post its my proof..

One more thing if you asked Bolt, James and Lesnar if they could do what Ali and Tyson did, do you think they'd laugh at you? maybe i should scratch Lesnar from the list

ok ok this thread was to see if anyone knew of any heavyweights that look like was capable of being an undefeated, KO king heavyweight BOXING (thanks to zojo I had to put that in capitals) champion of the world like Tyson in his reign or fast, dramatic and entertaining like Ali...and if they thought another BOXING freak was around the corner

GEEZ I thought the heading was clear...in a BOXING forum how do you read 'When will we see another freak like a TYSON or an ALI?', and then think and even post something like 'ohhh Bolt, Lesnar and James are freaks they can do anything, they can be heavyweight champion boxers they just didnt want to be'...DAMMMMM

this is a stupid post all he was saying is that in sport you have frakish atheletes, if guys like lesnar,st peirre, silva, bolt and james they would of had excellent careers in boxing or anyother sport they chose because they are so atheletic

hey p4p1 are you agreeing with zojo?...
I hate arguing with people about boxing especially those who havent even boxed in their life or have only had 5 fights..
I asked a boxing question on a boxing forum and zojo tells us about athletes that have nothing to do with the question THAT IS STUPID...
i.e who is the prime minister zojo? zojo:-'umm Obama is a good president but he chose America' THAT THAT IS STUPID..
I didnt learn shit, not only is his answers teaches us NOTHING but its irrelevant to the question.
As if I never knew about Bolt, James and Lesnar being freaks WE ALREADY KNEW THAT ZOJO!!!!
I want an answer not some person pointing out old news I/We already know..
Now who were you saying is stupid p4p1?

In the heading "When will we see another freak like a Tyson or an Ali", the original poster means "freak" as,

"a product of sporting fancy"!

So in the case of Tyson, the answer is yes as Tyson style fighters, eg. Sonny Liston, Smokin' Joe Frazier appear every couple of decades.

But in the case of Ali, the answer must be no, as the great man was unique in his ringcraft at that weight!

if you are only going to discuss/argue topics with blokes that have had more than 5 pro fights then you are only going to post with maybe 10 other people here. Everyone looks at things differently, I would be too fused by it. I've found heaps of threads i've made here have ended up in different directions than they started. Often for the better.

- Yessssssssss, they had the talent and the choices, they did.

Left out but not forgotten in the genetic freakoid jackpot Micheal Phelps, Roger Federer, and Tiger Woods, future champeen HOFers all, but opted for nancified sports where the money was easier and the women softer. Heck, even Dempsey went Hollywood.

Oh, and Serena Williams. What she threatened that linesman with at the US Open is but a mere hint of what she would have done to Mss. Ali had Serena chosen a less lady like sport. And Sweet Mother of Mona Lisa, Venus has a gaze that would turn the Medusas into pillars of salt, so imagine Mss. Ali looking across the ring and seeing THAT for the first time!

And of course, last, but certainly the greatest pugilist of all time.......potentially that is.........Barak Obama.............Yes We Can, Baby.........errrrrrr.....coulda, woulda, shoulda but too busy cracking the da vinci code of politics instead of noggins.
