Pecheco did a voice over commentary on Ali-Frazier II that was absolutely awash in Ali bias. I once thought he was a pretty fair guy. Most of the others on that list I have ignored all along.

We need a poll to determine the most pristine Ali butt boys that post here.

I thought gran had been banned? Seriously I don't know how much longer I can stick around here with both he and BRR trolling on here constantly . . . . at least BRR usually doesn't create whole threads that junk up the forum.

Dempsey, the ignore feature can be your best friend . . .

1. If you have them on ignore, you don't have to read their . . . er . . . (how do I put this nicely?) . . . nonsense.

2. I've found that if enough people ignore somebody long enough, they eventually go away.

I don't see why he can't have a bit of a good time. No one takes him seriously and he can always be ignored. I'm afraid if I make them disappear yancey will not be pleased.

Nobody should take him seriously with nonsense like that.

Granberry knows more about boxing than all the Ali cabana boys at this joint put together.

Of course yancey. Anyone who likes that ol' fraud is of course misguided and easily fooled.

I have never seen or heard of anything more obsequious and ingratiating than how Tom Hauser became originally associated and "Connected" to Ali or to boxing itself.

Tom had lots of fights you know, he is a real expert. So much so the Ali people after years of him using Ali and inventing himself as a boxing expert, was shunned by the Ali people finally.

Did you know that anyone who "Writes" about boxing can be on HBO, sell a book and actually give fight advice.

Sorry the king has no clothes, lisps, and loves to hang around fighter's locker rooms. Christ Almighty how transparent can it get.

Good reasearcher, lawyer, but haughty, obsequious, pompous ass, who chased Ali's jock into the freaking laundry truck.

ZERO knowledge of boxing himself, just parrots axioms and reseach material into an empire of total bullshit with zero underpinnings except following fighters around and writing down what they say.

Started with Black Lights with Costello and then wrote the Ali book, which was a Citizen Kane piece of writing down what others say.

Worst ass kisser ever.

Like Bert Sugar said of him, "Trying so hard to be a man." Not that there is anything wrong with that a la Seinfeld episode.

What a post.

Is your handle in honor of the late, great hunter Elgin Gates?

Hauser is a parasite who attached himself to Ali.

HERBERT GOLDMAN---boxing "expert"

One day I was leaving Frazier's gym and as I walked down the sidewalk I saw he was picking up his car at the carwash next door.

The carwash guy was giving Frazier back the keys to his car with a great deal of obsequiousness, or you could call it respect, showing that he considered Frazier highly and was very happy to have his business.

I had just seen that Herbert Goldman, acting as the “answer man” in Bert Sugar’s bastardized excuse for what was left of the Ring magazine, had answered the question

“Why did Frazier go to the hospital with kidney trouble after his (first) fight with Ali?”

The correct answer was because Frazier had a bad kidney infection before the fight
and TWO commission doctors refuse to pass him in the prefight physical.

It wasn’t until they dredged up a third doctor who agreed to sign off on passing Frazier that the fight was able to go on.
Interestingly, Frazier fought the whole 15 round fight with a kidney infection, which would have a major bad effect on physical energy, endurance, etc.

Genius Herbert Goldman as Bert Sugar’s “answer man” gave the following ‘answer’ to the question, “Why did Frazier go to the hospital with kidney trouble after his (first) fight with Ali?”

“BECAUSE OF ALI’S BODY PUNCHES.”

Of course this was a dead giveaway (as if any were needed) of Goldman’s total and complete incompetence to do with the subject,

since Ali didn’t know how to throw a body punch

and did not throw a single punch to the body in the entire fight.

I walked over to Frazier as he was getting in his car and said. “Did you see the latest “answer man” column in the Ring magazine? They asked, ‘Why did Frazier go to the hospital with kidney trouble after his fight with Ali?’

“And the answer was ‘Because of Ali’s body punches.’ “

Frazier had a look of EXTREME disgust on his face, cursed, got in his car and drove away.

Imagine quoting Bert Sugar to make a point.

Actually Elgin, crankberry hates Bert almost as much as he hates Hauser.

I do not HATE anyone in boxing...but Bert Sugar is around the top of
my list as far as being 'hated' goes.

Hauser atleast seems like a nice guy, who is in an almost awe like
state when he writes about Ali. That is great, an Ali writer he is,
a boxing historian, perhaps he is not.

Glad to see some votes here for drunken Bert Sugar.

I think you'd get a lot more votes for Bert if the poll was entitled Boxing's most deluded and irritating 'writer'

He actually described himself as 'Boxing's Foremost Historian' in Earnie Shavers' autobiography, and likens the making of a great fighter to the making of a great martini, something which I suspect he knows a lot more about...

Elgin seems to think Bert is an authority on boxing.

Poor Elgin.

Brilliant (and very true) comment, Flump.

Herbert Goldman told me that Sugar would come in the Ring offices at 11 am, stay for an hour or less, and then leave for "lunch." [Translation: DRINKS]

He would never return.

Those who could drink with him got their 'articles' in the bastardized remnant of the Ring that Sugar was the 'head editor' of.

Sugar and his buddy Barney Nagler elected themselves to the IBHOF 'writer's hall of fame,'

while almost all of the great boxing writers from the long history of boxing were nowhere to be seen.

Herbert Goldman?

Wasn't that the guy who claimed Roy Jones Jnr was THE GREATEST FIGHTER OF ALL TIME, grandma?

Still, he must know what he's talking about if you are willing to quote him.

Ferdie Pacheco is the biggest cocksucker that I have ever seen in boxing. Especially, when it comes to Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard....The most painful thing about it, he's Cuban.

I had a look at a couple of Sugar era Ring magazines the other day and it was shocking at how bad some of it was, the photographic layouts were appalling and the editorials were particularly disrespectful of some fighters, coming from Bert, a man who has never taken a punch in his life as far as I know, not including bouncers throwing him out of bars at closing time of course.
