Essex crowd on Friday

I read on another site that there were crowd problems on Friday- did anyone notice the extent of these? I essentially ask out of curiosity- I don't go to professional boxing any more after the violence at a previous event.

I've already posted about this, but I think it got lost in the controversy of the fight, although, ironically, it may be linked (if O'Connor felt threatened). I'll see if I can dig up my posts.

Could you post a link to where you read about it, please? I'm curious to read someone else's point of view.

Thanks Whicker. Here's a link to my post: http://forum.boxrec.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 9#p2019119
Asterix wrote:I would also like to touch on something else that I found very disappointing, and this was to do with the promotion. There weren't enough security people!

During the Fury-McDermott fight a guy threw a programme from one side of the ring to the other. I don't know if he was trying to hit the boxers or what. A security guy had words with him, but didn't do anything. The problem? The guy causing the trouble was bigger than the security guards, so I guess they didn't want to mess with him.

Then what happens? A guy in the crowd who was not happy with the incident must have shouted at them or something. So this new guy and the other guy's friend are now inviting each other over for a fight. Thankfully no-one moves.

Oh, I'm not finished yet.

When the main fight had concluded some guys in front of us quickly ran down the steps and smashed through the fire escape door. As we're queueing to get out, we hear some guys (Fury fans) saying that they ran from them. So basically, there are two factions at war.

Nope, not finished yet.

The Fury fans find someone and one of them proceeds to attack him. My brother, my Mum, her boyfriend and myself are all jammed in as there's only one exit. The guys fighting got dangerously close to my Mum, who was in front of me. Thankfully the guy being attacked escaped and we were able to get out.

As we're driving out loads of police arrive. Bit bloody late, don'tcha think?

I'm very disappointed. I won't be taking my Mum along again. Too dangerous.

Bloody hell! The bastard who threw the programme across the ring was Fury's brother. What a fuckwit. No wonder the security wouldn't throw him out.

Read the report by Asterix- thats how I feel too about the state of crowd violence at live boxing. Unless there is a police presence at boxing, I think this sort of thing will put people off- especially women, younger people etc.

Well I definitely won't go to another bill involving Tyson Fury, that's for sure. It's a huge shame.

Yeah, they aren't exactly setting a good example.

Daft , too, as they must know that it can affect a boxers career.

I've just checked, and it is.

I didn't realise it was so obvious on TV. The commentator mentioned it. O'Connor looked over to Fury's brother.

She wasn't that bad when I met her, although that was 10 years ago :geek:

As for the crowd trouble, Fury comes from a family of travellers doesn't he?

Now talking from my own experiences with several traveller families, all of the ones I've come across have had their share of degenerates who want nothing more than a good old fashioned brawl and generally don't know(or care) how to behave.

Interesting people are saying "wont be going to another fury fight" when it was on a rival promoters card. Was it all his fans causing a ruckus? COuld see in the background following the fight there were groups of lads running accross the seating area, presumed then there was trouble.

McDermott is from travelling stock too I think.

It can't always be one way, but Fury's followers have plenty of previous, especially in his Amateur days.

Thought it might be, when I read your earlier post.

There's 6 or 7 of them, all huge bastards too. Recent interview ( BN or BM? ) and the dad is boasting about how vicious they all are, stating proudly that one of them has been done something like 62 times for assault.

If O'Conner felt a bit intimidated about holding up John McD's hand I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Yes, I guess with the build up, the families history, and the rivalary felt when travelling stock fights travelling stock (usually fantastic atmosphere's) - not really suprised it got a little messy.

Not condoning it in anyway, just saying not surprised.

Not people, just me, as far as I'm aware. And yes, it was obvious that it was Fury's people (and fans?) causing the trouble.

That's a real shame. It's not like anything's going to be done about it, either. I'll just patiently wait for Fury to get knocked out, I suppose, and then start my celebrations.
