I had the pleasure of attending the recent fights at the Italian Club in Perth:
Jeremy Allan UD4 Paz Viejo
I had Allan winning this by 3 rounds to 1, plus Viejo was deducted a point. Viejo had an awkward style, but by the 4th Allan was hurting him, I don't think he would have made it through a 5th. Not a great quality fight.
Andrew Green KO1 Rhys King.
Complete demolition of a fighter with a 5-1 record. I didn't get to make an impression of King, as the fight was over so quickly. Green pounces on King immediately, knocking him down in the first second of the fight. One minute later Green had him back in a corner and finished him off with a powerful combination, the last punch of which hit King in the back of the head (not sure if it was intentional or not). King was completely out of it, not getting up for at least 2 minutes.
Peter Cronje Draw6 Masataka Takehara
Clearly the best fight of the day, one judge scored it 59-55 to Cronje, another 59-55 to Takehara, the other 57-57. I thought that a draw was a fair result, Takehara was the better boxer IMO, he showed superior skills and movement, but lacked the power to seriously hurt Cronje and looked gassed at times. Takehara also had a nasty cut over his right eye that looked to be hindering towards the end of the fight. Great fight though, with both landing plenty of leather, particularly towards the end of the fight.
Clint Hosking UD6 Kane Buckley
For a fighter with a 1-13-2 record, Buckley is not bad. Hosking was dominant in the 1st, but the rest of the fight was competitive. In the 6th, Buckley allowed Hosking several free shots at his chin, for which he was warned.
David Letizia UD6 Jeff Stutt
The 40yo Stutt is a tough fighter, and announced afterwards that this was his last fight. Letizia showed superior skills, movement and speed, winning the first round easily, and edging the rest in what was a competitive fight (I had Letizia winning 5 rounds to 1). Stutt looked to have the stronger chin, but could not land consistently enough to win enough rounds.
The heavyweight battle was definitely the fight of the night, but watch out for Andrew Green. I believe he will be a real star in the future of the light heavyweight or cruiserweight division.
