Ali Buma-ye, buma-ye Ali Nuumbembe
tough kid, talented, got the short end of the stick over here....basically he was eligible to fight for just about f*ck all. He won the Commonwealth off Kevin Anderson....a bad day for Darlington bookies, having seen The Silent Assassin at close quarters as I had.
I was flabberghasted and amazed that Watson kept him at bay and beat him, flushing with blood though Ali was that night, but to be fair, Watson seemed to be coping admirably with the Glossop based Namibian before the gash opened over Nuumbembe's eye.
F*ck Matthew Hatton...for me, Craig Watson's reputation as a top domestic Welterweight was confirmed the night he took Ali's Commonwealth title.
Of course Ali eventually returned to his birth country, to re-join the Namibian Defence Force, at the peak of his boxing prowess, due to complications with his work permit over here...he had to make a certain amount of mony to stay, and unfortunately he wasn't doing it so I understand...and who can blame him, with the likes of Matthew Hatton calling for him in the media "a natural fight for the North West" yet seemingly unprepared to meet him where it counts, in the ring.
Of course, Ali suffered defeat on his home-coming......(at least the man hadn't given up on his dream)....losing to one of that continent's up and coming stars and Amateur Boxing Commonwealth star, I forget the name
but I credit the Boxing News for the report. So I'm over the moon that this fighter has won this, on the face of it at least somewhat pretigious belt.
I am not alone in wishing this honest, hardworking, talented, popular and underrated boxer the best of luck for the future.
Well done Ali
