Manny Pacquaio V Kelly Pavlik - !!!!!!

by FLINT ISLAND
Just looking through the latest issue of the ring and it had a big feature on Manny Pacquiao and what great fights there are left for him to go encahnce his greatness.
Floyd Mayweather.
Miguel Cotto.
Shane Mosely.
etc.
etc.
Then they said the ultimate fight for him to seal his career would be for him to move up to Middleweight to fight Kelly Pavlik for the Undisputed World Middleweight title.
Are ring Magazine nuts ?
Yes Manny has looked sensational beating up De La Hoya and sparking Hatton.
But look how big and rangy and most of all how hard a full blown middeweight banger like Pavlik punches.
Personally I think Pacquaio would be outgunned and outreached and get sparked out.
What does everyone else think of the Ring magazines very ambitous possible super fight ?

I think this would be a step too far for Pacman. Pavlik is a big Middleweight who is a massive puncher at the weight having knocked out well over 80% of his opponents. He would also have a massive height and reach advantage and I don't believe Pacman would have the power to trouble him. In addition, Pacman doesn't have a granite chin himself having been put down by Marquez and knocked out 3 times in his career at much lighter weights. Who knows what Pavlik could do if he connected.
The only way Pacman could win this in my opinion is if he used his speed to move in and out and didn't get involved in a tear up. This would require huge discipline and patience and that's just not the way Pacman fights.
A more interesting fight would be Mayweather against Pavlik which Mayweather could win if he fought a Hopkins type fight.

To add to my earlier comments, it would take a defensive masterclass for Pacman to win the fight and he just doesn't have that defensive ability. Mayweather on the other hand is a master of defence and so would be in with a real shout.

The Ring compared Manny Pac to Henry Armstrong - who was World Champion at Featherweight and won World titles at Lightweight and Welterweight also and just failed to win the World Middleweight title.
Manny started off even lighter than Featherweight Armstrong though.

Its a crazy fight.
I would still love to see it though.
It would be bizzare to see a little Bruce Lee type Manny taking on such a naturally bigger man.

i wouldn't even discuss this. Some people get hold of any old topic and beat it to death. It's garbage, a mockery...Pavlik stands nearly one whole foot taller. It's tripe, it's a
non-story. And yes I know Valuev is a foot taller each time he gets in the ring. Get over it.
Honestly, when train spotters stand in th ep*ssing rain at th eend of a platform with theikr notepads and pens at the ready, they get stick.
This is boxing trainspotting. Get a life.

- Needs to be pointed out that you don't know the first thing about this issue.
1. Manny was never down and never more than briefly buzzed in his series against Marquez, instead dropping Marquez for 4 official KDs and at least 1-2 uncalled KDs and had him reeling on other occasions.
2. He was KOed twice in his career, once as a teenager on a bullseye low blow, a clear foul the ref refused to call and another on a right hook to his elbow as fly champ in a bout he looks to have thrown. His only other loss was the first Morales fight, a close decision, the only fight he's lost since moving out of fly.
3. Mr. Money is a midget compared to Mr. Pops and has never ever fought that type of in the pocket masterclass against a LH. Manny's movement would be the more difficult fight for Pavlik, but it would take a major physical makeover for Manny to get above 154 and still be in shape. Kelly won't be around much longer anyways if he can't solve his health problems.

- Manny and Williams are p4p class master boxers.
Clottey is a crude headbutting dirt clod and doesn't belong in the same sentence.

I'm sorry, but are you lying about this being in Ring? The Ring I knew would never publish anything so preposterous.
Look, taking on someone like Mosley is really -- really -- pushing the envelope for the size of fighter that Pacquiao could conceivably take on, but Pavlik is way, way beyond the realms of possibility.
It would be like asking a prime Felix Trinidad to fight Evander Holyfield to seal his legacy.
Believe me, if Pacquiao fights and beats Cotto, Mayweather and Mosley in his next three fights, no only would he be the best of his generation, but he would also find himself in the hunt for a place in the all time top 10 list.
He doesn't need to step up and fight Vitaly Klitschko to prove anything more.
Shheessh. I sounds as if Ring have employed one of those pallid, greasy geeks who sit around in ill lit rooms, wearing Red Dwarf Smeg Head T-Shirts, eating Pringles and asking questions like "who would win in a fight between Captain Kirk and Hans Solo" and actually considering them seriously.

Solo easy. Come on, not even worth discussing. And he'd get the girl. He's Indiana Jones FFS.

How random choosing Clottey from all the welters as one that'd KO Manny.

Give me a break, Payne. Kirk beat Spock in that episode when Spock went all crazy and angry and gained super human strength because of something that happens to vulcan blood.
Plus, Kirk beat genetically engineered Khan.
And on a ring generalmanship level, the fact Kirk is a master -- a
master, do you hear, Payne -- of not just ordinary chess that any old Kasparov can get good at, but
three dimensional chess, which suggests to me that he would have the tactical edge.
So why don't you just go home and wet the bed, loser.

Manny's got a fight scheduled with Cotto. Not exactly an easy fight. Let's wait for that, shall we?

You know Tracer's don't work. Solo, once he got rid of his slave name and became Indiana Jones, beat Pat Roach despite giving away 80lbs and a foot in reach and Roach as you know was consensus victor in his clash with Roger Moore, only the adminstering of a volley of chemicals saved Moore that day.

The ring list step by step fights about how Manny can seal his legacy from here
They list him rematching Marquez , fghting Mayweather and Mosely and Cotto.
Then list his final fight - as the ulimtate challenge - to walk in the footsteps of Henry Amrstrong - and move up and challenge for the World Undisputed Middleweight title against Kelly Pavlik.

I'm just pointing out what the Ring Magazine who are so established and respected made a big article on.
The fight could easily be made - if Manny was able to bulk up for the weight - because money talks.
Dont mean I think he would win though - when Pavlik connects - as he will because of his big reach advatnage - Manny is going to sleep.
I think it would go 6 rounds the most - and thats only if Manny got on his bike.
But Pavlik was far too rangy and powerful for a guy the size of Gary Lockett.
So he would be much to big and rangy and powerful for a guy like Pacquaio.
However - money talks - so there is a small chance the fight could happen.

Yes, but Manny had the benefit of modern nutritional methods to allow him to fight at the lower weight.
There's more than a few parallels with Armstrong actually.
Pavlik would just be too goddam big, he's a big middleweight who cuts a lot to make 160, he'd probably be competitive for a few rounds before Pavlik chinned him and sparked him out.

There's no way on god's earth Freddie Roach would ever allow this, considering that they've forced Cotto to boil down to 145 - I can't see how they'd ever even consider putting Manny in with a guy who would weigh 175 come fight night.
