nice interview. with my black country hat on I would though say that McDermott didn't quite go 'life and death' with Steve Bendall, but i would say that, wouldn't I?

Nice interview to start with and good to see Macklin's career seems to be developing nicely and hopefully now settled with Gallagher. Should be a good fight and i'm looking forward to it.

Shame Macklin gets carried away when talking about Barker though. People were disappointed because of the pull out after purse bids for a fight people thought would happen and were looking forward to. Macklin was really respectful of Barker on the boxing hour a couple of months ago but seems to have gone back on that.

Also, to bring up Barker sparing a couple of decent fighters (Froch and Kessler maybe??) and then rave about himself sparing world class (very debatable) guys like Yussef Mack!

Good interview, neither Macklin or Barker will or are world class. Macklin is the better fighter though.

I think most people accept that, but at the same time people want to see 2 guys they know all about fighting each other. Nobody would say he is going down an easier route (although some may say it's a route that suits his promoter more?)
But going from experience we know the fight with Barker will probably never happen.

Good luck to Macklin though, he has a tough fight on his hands and I hope he comes though it

yeah good luck matt The undercard is crap though you got good fighters on there all against foreigners none of them are in matches and Butler v Mcdermott is off mcdermott injured

Is it possible that we could see a different great domestic battle at middleweight?

Now, Hatton has 2 middleweights, Macklin and I believe Martin Murray?

Macklin has been moved up to Euro level and if successful, perhaps Hatton might push Martin Murray for a British or Commonwealth title shot...

Murray won the Prize Fighter and I believe won the English title, so how about it...

I like Murray but feel there is something missing for him to beat the likes of Barker and Macklin but when they have gone I think he can win it.

I think Martin Murray looks a potentially better raw talent than both of them. He seems big, strong, poised, with a wicked body attack. The only problem I saw was that he was throwing the right hand too high, vs Concepcion. He must be about 27 now, so there is no time to waste.

If Murray is ready (a big if) then Barker-Murray could be every bit the fight that Barker-Macklin could have been.

But then, why should Barker fight Murray, when he wanted Macklin, who took a different route? And obviously there is zero chance of Murray v Macklin, as they are with the same stable. So I can see the frustration that many fans have, because we may never see any of them vs each other!

a combination of beer goggles and rose-tinted glasses that refuse to see anything negative where boxers from WV and DY postcodes are concerned. so it's not really a hat I suppose but i hope you take my point.

russ- glad it's not just me mate, i mean i'd love for Macca to have smashed bendall to bits like Elcock did, he didn't do that unfortunately but it was a comfortable enough win.

shame about him being out injured anyway
