Speaking to Joe Gallagher today, he feels Thaxton is the favourite over Murray, and thinks that Thaxtons dad saying Thaxton cant win is just them trying to put the pressure on Murray.

Murray is favourite every day of the week for the fight no matter how much you try to deflect the hype off your fighter!!!

Walk in the park for murray Thaxton looked shocking and washed out in his last fight.Word is that everyone is giving him a rough time in sparring even the novice fighters.He cuts too easily and his one attribute that got him through many tough fights seems to have deserted him,his stamina.His last 2 fights saw him running out of gas pretty quick.Stoppage for Murray around the 6th.

whether you buy into it or not, one thing about joe is that he takes murray's opponents VERY seriously. if he says that about thaxton, there's a chance that he believes it. and if he believes it, he will have prepared murray very thoroughly. in other words it sounds like they're probably training for the best possible jon thaxton. they may be prepared for a better thaxton than will turn up, but it's better than t'other way around.

it's understandable that he wants murray to get credit for the win. he wanted this fight when i first talked to him early in 2008 when they had little momentum and were desperate to step up. and then wanted it as a british/european "unification", which also never happened.

thaxton was unlucky when mezaache spat out his mouthpiece: he should have got a first round KO, just about. while he lost his way, and showed that he perhaps struggles to adjust or be consistent, jon thaxton is still a powerful puncher, especially early. then again, if thaxton was still EBU champ, then i doubt murray would be getting a fight with him.

I think there is gamesmanship at play here by both camps. They are looking to gain a psychological edge.

Who ever the favourite may or may not be (and on recent form it is hard NOT to see Murray as a clear favourite) it is a cracking all British fight and I can't wait for it..

Yes, and watch the press releases when Murray wins. I'm sure the Glover display will continued to be forgotton about, or skimmed over.

I have a shit loads of respect for Jon, coming back after his horrendous injury. What an absolute proffesional - but its been a long hard career and, even though he had a career best title recently, I think he's been on the slide for some time. Didn't look great against Scott Lawton, look shabby against Stewart.

Thaxton is still a good scalp for Murray at British level. If Murray stops him, it'll be Murray's 4th stoppage in a row of top 10 EBU ranked contenders (following Meager, McAllister and Lawton). I think most of us know that Murray wanted the EBU title shot at Mezaache. If he beats Thaxton and Mezaache - for the EBU - in his next 2 fights, then this is good form. Let's face it, if Murray had got to Mezaache before Thaxton did, Thaxton would be one of the top contenders and I'm sure Mick Hennessy would have done his best to get Thaxton the opportunity anyway...Murray has been given the Thaxton fight when there is the least reward, when Thaxton will be the most desperate to succeed. So if ppl want to hype it up, let 'em, I say.

I don't think Thaxton was on the slide vs Lawton and Stewart. He was ragged, struggling against the height and reach of both, but ground both down with grit and force. Thaxton-Stewart was a tremendous fight. The Meager fight appeared to be his peak, and I was sure he'd never look that good again; but it was pretty recent when Thaxton blitzed the quality Melero for the EBU title.

Re Joe Gallagher - I know from talking to him that he took Meager (for Murray) and Asikainen (for Macklin) deadly seriously. And look at the results. If Joe is overegging Thaxton, then I think it's likely that he'll have channeled this in the right direction; the higher he rates the opponent, the better his fighter seems to do, is what I'm getting at.

Yes it will clearly be a good win and yes Murray will need to box well to get the victory.

My posts concerning Murray are in the context that I want to see him on the world stage - I think he could be that good - however to do that he needs to be beating Thaxton with a reasonable amount of comfort.

I think Thaxton's corner will throw the towel in during the middle rounds.
