Haye Valuev - who wins

Seems most on the forum think David Haye will defeat Valuev when they meet in November. Looks like I'm in the minority in thinking the big lump of a Russian will prove to tricky a task for the out of ring, relatively inexperienced Haye.

So, who wins... Haye, or Valuev

I'm going for Valuev - ponderous as Valuev is, he's a giant of a man, very durable, and although not a big hitter, I think he hits hard enough to stop Haye, who doesn't have the best set of whiskers in the world.

I know this is a bit of controversial view as most people seem to favour Haye, but I cannot forget that he was dropped by Barrett in his last heavyweight fight.

Yes I agree, Haye's going to have to fight in and out... and I think for a period he is going to be successful. But ultimately, he relies far too much on his power and I think he will be surprised at Valuev's durabality.

Haye's right though, what an impression he will make if he KO's that monster. I aint saying its not beyond him, Valuev aint faced as big a puncher as Haye before, but so far - he's stood up to decent punchers very well.

He took some absolute haymakers from Gerald nobles, Nobles literally threw his entire bodyweight behind them, boobs and all, and although he momentarily halted in his tracks, Valuev kept coming.

I think the Holyfield fight was a false dawn. He won't be that bad again.

NV is just too big. Having to punch up so high against him must be bizarre, unnatural and energy sapping. Add to that the weight of any (many) clinches and I see David exhausted by the 7th, by which stage even a relatively light-fisted 23 stone bloke is gonna be able to close the show.

I think, unlike Holyfield, Haye will fight really positively and go for the win, however ultimately that will be his undoing. The big Russian will grit his teeth and ride the initial onslaught, while Haye will tire and punch himself out, leaving him to get beat late on.

I hate Valuev and would love to see Haymaker win, but I just think size will be a massive factor along with it being a Sauerland show in Germany.

David has said himself he probably needs to knock Valuev out and comparing the two, I just cant see him doing it because this guy is just a mountain.

Valuev to win

It will look messy and unimpressive

But he will prove to be too tough a nut to crack in a underrated sort of way

I think Haye can win and LB 4 LB a classier fighter

But I just think Haye will not KO him early

The fight will drag on

Haye will land some bombs and stun Valuev

But it will drag onto the latter stages and when it gets too rounds 8 and beyond - Hayes workrate will drop and he will start getting mauled over and stopped in the later rounds

I think Haye gets the early rounds but then Valuev will just be too big and strong for him it's tough fighting someone a few kilo's heavier let alone 8 stone heavier!

I say a KO in the 7th for Valuev with Haye exhausted andnValuev coming on stronger

i think if haye manages to gets in and out he will really frustrate valuev and can see him quitting on his sool after the 8th.
if the fight does go the distance can anyone see haye getting the decision in germany even if he does win the fight?

I've just gone with Valuev on the votes, but it's a shaky bet. It's one of those fights that'll probably be one-way traffic, leaving us wondering why we got so hyped. In sparring I think Haye would make Valuev look like a big old tree, clumsily throwing its branches at a woodpecker.

There are two things at the front of my mind, though. #1 is that I'm sure Haye will be intimidated when he walks back to his corner after the ref's instructions. Valuev should be okay; he's done HBO and has the size advantage to feel secure about. While Vitali is the hardest for Haye to beat, I actually feel Wlad is less frightening to him than Valuev. Haye knows Wlad can be decked, and his extra height isn't enough to reduce Haye's power. Which brings me on to the other point...

Valuev can back Haye up behind his favoured jab. Once on the ropes, there's no way Haye can get much leverage on his head shots; Valuev still can. Haye absolutely cannot lean on the ropes at any time. Even being on the back foot without regularly threatening is potentially very bad news. I'm expecting Haye to grit his teeth and come out swinging from the first bell. My thinking is that he'll be pissed that he's afraid of the giant and the occasion, so he'll use that anger to 'go Tyson'. If the TV exposure gets to him, Valuev can, and probably will, take over completely. Rounds 3-5 and it's over unless Haye's able to hurt and/or confound the Russian.

If Haye hasn't had a big moment inside three I don't see a way back for him. That would leave him with three clear options: rematch, retire, or a return to cruiser minus the weightlifting. I hope early power shots cause Valuev to question his plan, leading to a mistake. It's true that he's frozen before under a barrage.

(If David takes the big man apart over many rounds with pure boxing I'll be incredibly impressed.)

Haye has been slating poor old Valuev pretty badly. Calling him ugly as hell etc etc

Hopefully the beast will come out swinging.

I think it's going to be a shockingly easy win for Valuev. I reckon even the giant's glancing punches are going to rattle Haye and bounce him off the canvas several times before it's stopped inside 5. His chin at HW looks to be of the finest china.
Love to be wrong though, and will be cheering on Haye to shock the world and knock the big lump out.

Haye should be fit enough not to gas out, its not like he's not had enough time to prepare.

I cant see Haye's power being enough to even rock Valuev, having to punch a foot into the air isnt going to help.

Valuev to get a KO while Haye trys to Bomb him out.

Hope i am wrong.

I cant help but think Haye will try & bombed Valuev out quickly, which might be his downfall thats why i'm going Valuev late stoppage.

I have a funny feeling Haye is gonna shock the world and KO Valuev early (rounds 1 - 4).

Don't ask me why and I'm not a Haye nuthugger, just a hunch I have.

BIGMARK wrote:This is a real interesting fight and very tough to call, of course there now is a blueprint on how to beat Valuev thanks to Mr Chagaev but is this a game plan Haye can follow? I am a Haye fan but am not blind to his weakness' and these could play into the big Russians hands if Haye goes for a KO. Yes David has good power but Valuev is a big unit and should be able to take IMO everything throws out him.
Now i'm not saying Haye cant win by KO but if he does it will be the effect of several bombs landed over several rounds and not a one off shot. Valuev although slow is now past his best and as he showed in the Holyfield fight (which IMO he lost) his workrate is terrible. Haye needs to forget chasing the KO and just work on out boxing the big man and try to stay out of clinches. Valuev has under rated boxing skills but over the last few years developed a half decent jab but on recent form Haye should easily out work him by using decent footwork and his speed.
This is Haye's fight to lose and althought the physical differences are huge using a clever plan and sticking to it should see Haye win. If he gets carried away search for KO he could gas and this may play into Valuev's hands but i dont see it but still wouldnt be surprised to see it happen.

come on Haye :box:
I agree, I think haye needs to try and get in and out as Chagaev did, but not sure he can box as well as Chagaev did in that fight or maintain his concentration.

And he doesnt have a noggin made of a cinder block, unlike chagaev.

You should always price the fight up in your own mind, before you start checking the odds.

I'd give Haye about 40% chance of winning this one, there are a lot of factors racked up against him, height, reach, weight, experience, and the fact that Haye doesn't really hold a shot too well.

I give Haye a chance because he is the better boxer, and bigger puncher, but I think the physical disadvantages may be insurmountable.

I hope I'm wrong because I'd like to see Haye win.
