MANCHESTER boxing promoter Steve Wood is to launch his own subscription-based boxing website following the news ITV are to cease broadcasting the sport from the end of the year.
And with Sky rivals Setanta in administration Wood's plans spell good news for all fight-fans.
"With the demise of boxing on terrestrial television I felt it was important the sport remained available to as big an audience as possible which is why I've decided to launch VIP BoxingTV," he said.
An established manager and promoter with a stable of over 25 professional boxers including current European middleweight champion Jamie Moore, Wood aims to make VIPboxing TV the sport's premier website.
"VIP Boxing TV will offer a lot more than just fights, we'll have interviews, training clips, the latest boxing news, archived fights and features on all VIP boxers. People will be able to see how they train, what they get up to outside the ring and of course, our cameras will be there when they step through the ropes," he added.
"I've been thinking about the website for a while but with less and less boxing been shown on television the time is right to put something back into the sport and to give all boxing fans their very own dedicated boxing website.
"We've already spent a lot of time and money on the project but it's been worth it, I'm as excited about VIP Boxing TV as I was when I first got into boxing 15 years ago, I know all true boxing fans will like what they see and we're going to start with a real coup by showing the Manchester leg of the Steve Bunce Roadshow - the only place anywhere you'll be able to see it apart from at one of the venues, and what's more we're going to launch on October 12 with an incredible joining offer which I know will really be appreciated by all boxing fans."
