I don't no too much about Asikainen but him and Macklin are both fringe world class but lets be honest Pavlik eats them both in the same night, thats not to say the winner cannot win a world title.

I've never seen him box either I agree Pavlik would beat them but Sylvester and Strum might be better for them imo

Did not like the stoppage to be honest, he was about to survive that first round in my opinion.

I've always liked Assaikia- Assaikaia- the Finn, but he was fecked there. His eyes were clear but his legs were in Junior Jones land.

If that had gone on, would he have survived a follow-up barrage? I think he would just have toppled again -- he went down in between the knockdowns without taking a punch.

Keep Adam Smith in the presenter position. he is decent in that position. Keep him away from the ring but I would like to see him replace the darts fella.

I think so too, but I think the result would have been the same no matter what. That first left hook spelt the end.

thought it was a bit of a premature finish tbh but he caught him lovely with that left hook.. great dig!!!

He was worst after the 1st knockdown

Then the ref stopped him on the 2nd knockdown - and did you see the shock / protest on his face.

Ref done the home fighter a favour there.

Every chance he was caught cold / early - could have been a tough fight - but the ref is senstivie to the home town fighters advatnage.

Nothing against Macklin though - -- good explosive performance.

Surely with Asikainen up at the count of 2, coherent enough to put his gloves up, and the round almost over... taking a quick moment to ask him to step forward and assess his balance was the very least the ref should have done? Maybe Asikainen was finished, but it would have taken the ref 1 or 2 seconds to give him a proper chance to show if he could continue.

impressive stuff from macklin...but still the ref should have let him continue...if he'd have gone down again then yeah stop it then, but the guy got up quickly and signalled he was ok to go on, premature stoppage IMO let's face it Benn was out on his feet against Mclennan in the 1st round and he came back to win it

Gutted there was no way of watching this for me but even given the questionable nature of the stoppage it sounds like a hugely impressive performance by Macklin and justifies his decision to bypass Barker. After all the moving camps and the stop/start nature of his career he finally seems to be hitting the sort of form that had him marked as such a hot prospect in the early days.

was a cracking atmposhere and a all round decent show couldn't tell if it was stopped to soon everyone was still jumping round after 1st knock down

I see your point, Teddy -- I would probably be more inclined to let it go if I was the ref, like I said, I like the Finnish fella, he's been a favourite of mine since he battered Sylvester the first time (I can't stand Sylvester), I would have actually liked him to have won tonight -- but I really thought the writing was on the wall after that second knockdown. Legs weren't right, & they weren't going to get any better.

It wasn't like Marquez in the first against Pac, was it, where he was getting knocked clean off his feet but seemed solid afterwards, it was the wobbliness in his legs that caused the ref's intervention. I concede it could have gone on longer but I don't think the final outcome would've been all that different.
