MACKLIN V BARKER will it happen

Now with macklin winning the euro belt, will this fight happen. I would like to see macklin 1st defence against barker. Then the winner goes for the world title.
I know this will not happen but it would be good to see who is the number 1 in England before they go off to win world titles. they will fight each other when they are passed there sell by dates.
what are peoples thoughts on this, would be a cracker of a fight styles make fights and i think they will gel to give us one hell of a fight
well done matt macklin on a great win

I really hope we do but I don't think we will I think Hatton will get a fight with Sylvester for Macklin and Barker wont get the fight which is a shame as it would be a very good fight and would be good for British boxing imo

Should it happen? Yes.
Will it happen? Only if Hennessy can't secure TV.
I'm quite impressed with Hatton's set up and he definitely outmanouvered Hennessy in the promotional stakes so far.

i'd like to see it happening in a british/commonwealth/europen unification, but I don't see it happening at all unless both hold world titles and they meet up in a world unification, I think Macklin's made it clear he's moving on from domestic opposition to the world stage now.

I'd love to see it happen but it doesn't make sense for Macklin to do it at this moment in time. If Macklin lost against Barker his dreams of world honours would be over. But if he goes for a world title and loses then he can face Barker on the way down after that. If he wins a world title then he can wait to the time if/when Barker joins him on the world stage in a couple of years. Fighting him now is too risky from a business point of view in my opinion.

Don't think this one will come off now.
The only way would be if Barker took a big step up in class and forced his way into the mandatory position, whilst at the same time hoping Macklin doestn't get a title fight.
Very unlikely.

Doubt it, unless someone wins a world title. And unless they both perhaps bring something bigger to the table, especially Barker.
I like Barker's quality boxing, and his willingness. But it's hard to fault Macklin for knocking out Elcock and Asikainen in consecutive fights. Macklin clearly will be wanting to fight Sylvester for the IBF title.
I wonder why Hennessy waited and waited to put on Barker v Elcock. It's kind of like Murray v Thaxton, a fight made when neither have their title belt (British, European). That way Barker would have been in a better position.
I really hope Barker can land a big fight. I think he would have more clout for these kind of fights if he'd beaten the likes of Jantuah, the likes of Ouma, whom Hennessy name dropped.

Said it since day one this fight was being discussed - dont want to see it happen - its a one sided mismatch in favour of Macklin.

I think Barker should have been put into a fight with Elcock, and that way Macklin would have had to go through Barker to get to the British title. Barker is excellent but I feel he may have been moved too slowly. You have to grab what you can, go for the jugular sometimes - then you are in a better position to negotiate. This is what Macklin did. I know his career really drifted after the Jamie Moore defeat. But he demolished Elcock on a rival promotion and then battered Asikainen.

Barker has done absolutely nothing to prove his European credentials - come on any of you please tell me what European Class performance has he produced to date?

Can't see Hatton getting that fight for Macklin as much as they might want it. Only if they want to go over to Germany and risk it. Sylvester ain't coming over to England.
The Lee fight is a good shout

I agree unless of course absolutely ridiculous money is put on the table.

I'd love to see Macklin Vs Barker, it's the best domestic middlewight fight we have at the moment, but going by Macklins promoters dislike for BIG domestic clashes I very much doubt it will happen

Macklin will beat Barker imo. Macklin had two explosive wins on the trot! When is Barker fighting for the British?

Macklin was quoted in the irish star on friday that if he won on friday night he would defend the european title a few times and then maybe fight Lee in Ireland.
Brian Peters offered e35,000 extra to the winner of a Duddy v Lee fight as an extra carrot for the Duddy camp but they wouldn;t go for it,so i would say money would not be a problem for Macklin v Lee.

I'd love to see it but think the opportunity has gone now for at least a year.
I can only see it happening now if Barker wins his next 2 fights and Macklin wins his 1st euro title defence and then fights Barker for a title eliminator, but don't think that will happen so the only other possible is if Macklin loses his next fight and Barker wins his next one and then they meet with Barker being the title holder and Macklin coming off of a defeat, again I can't see that happening.
Out of interest I reckon it will be close fight and would be hard to call, if it went to points then I reckon Barker but if not I think Macklin would have the knock out power.

This would be a good fight to watch. Matthew himself said it would be good business as the fans would love to see a rematch.
Only thing is Macklin will never step down, and will Moore travel to 160 to face him

Ditto that mate.
It would be awesome for British boxing if Macklin could go over there and do Skelator, something Eastman failed to do...
Out of all the recent British middles I think he's the man to do it.
