John Murray: get fvcking stuck in!

Reckon Thaxton will be very dangerous early but Murray seems mature enough to know when to put in the big attacks, and determined enough to sustain the attacks, to force maybe a good mid/late stoppage.

Thaxton is a hard man, and while he has had 2 poor results, we've seen this guy come back before, and know that he can punch. I would rather see Murray go for the EBU title vs Mezaache, but to be honest, that won't be half as exciting as Murray v Thaxton.

Just looked at EBU rankings for August.

Alex Arthur the top contender? Behind Mezaache Champ, & Murray Mandatory).

Could be a good time for Murray. Can't see what Arthur did to warrant such a high rating - has he been deftly "moved" by powerful ppl, for purpose of getting a shot?

Thaxton still #7 so this will be great if Murray can force stoppage & get the win.

I think Murray wins but it might go the distance. Do you think Murray will join his brother at Hatton?

they did mention jons next fight in hattons programme the other day and his name does get brought up a bit, but i think with the promise of a euro title shot and the possibility of a world title shot soon, i think he will stay with mick.

i think he'll have at least a few more fights at hennessy. if he gets thaxton out the way, urely murray will get the push. perhaps hennessy - having 2 top british lightweights - has been in a bit of a dilemma, resulting in frustration for murray. maybe things will be different if murray delivers, as expected to.

Won't everything depend on Hennessy tv deal?

I think tv deal could be a big factor!

Dave Caldwell's column, on Murray v Thaxton. Interesting thoughts on Murray's improved defense and how surprised Caldwell was in the corner of McAllister, on the night.

Jono has the power, but Murray has that pressure & youth.

If Murray gets hit by something big, we could see something happen, but Murray has to be the favourite for this.

Murray seems to up his game a lot when theirs a decent fella in the other corner.

If Thaxton loses, but puts in a good showing, does anyone think he'd be back in the British title mix? Provided Murray moves straight up to the next level i.e. Euro...

Would love to see Thaxton vs someone like Johanesson.

yeah i reckon, just about

question for all:

*if* Murray does step up that level who are the candidates to replace him? are we looking at the likes of McAllister/ Thaxon / Meager and other old-guarders..

or is there a new guard ready to step up? like that Prizefighter winner forgotten his name... etc?

I wouldn't mind seeing Murray get his wish of a Katsidis fight, it would be guaranteed to live up to expectations.
Providing Jon can take a shot, and we've seen nothing to say he cant, that fight would be superb. "they could do this in a phone box" - would be the comment at some point.

People should not over look Thaxton in this fight. Sure he has had two losses recently .. but the Glover defeat shouldn`t be taken too seriously cos it was just an overweight match-up Jon took to keep busy.

Murray may have a good chin, but he does get hit alot .. and whilst he may have the chin to absorb the bombs - the bigger danger will be the damage he will pick up along the way.

Good match-up that doesn`t really have a clear favourite. Both their styles play to each others strengths.

Undercard is shocking for a TV show

i was thinking that myself, the quality of the rest of the show really is poor, but ive got tickets because the main event more than makes up for it. Come on murray.

Murray mid to late rounds. Don't think Jono has the engine any more, he's looked ponderous in recent fights and his timing isn't what it was.

Think Jono will have success in the first couple of rounds, but Murray's body shots and educated pressure will pick him apart.

Should be fun while it lasts.

Good luck to both men.

Thaxton bangs to the body as well. I think we'll be seeing/hearing some pretty emphatic bodyshots from both men whilst this lasts :box:

Not a good matchup now, Thaxton just lost to a journeyman in his last fight and was outhustled for his euro belt before that. Murray will win easy.
