Coleman Barrett

He performed well last night.

Just wondering if anyone knows why he took off nearly 4 years in the middle of his career?

Lets have it right....he's cr*p.

When Gammer hit him with a couple meaty looking shots in his first fight he went into a shell. He got going again as Gammer was clearly out of shape and unable to follow up.

A busy southpaw heavyweight will always be a touch awkward, until the decent opposition start landing at which point Barrett gets taken out....every time.

im giving him the benefit of the doubt, when i saw him early on in his career, with hennessey, as a ruiser, he was pants and skin off a rice pudding springs to mind. he still could not knock the skin off a rice pudding but had developed decent speed and upper body movement.

we are saying he is too small for a heavyweight....but..he is the same weight as david haye or maybe a little bit bigger !!! ... :box:

Is this the same Barrett who came/or got one his team to come on here to slag off Tyson Fury?

He could probably drop down to Cruiser and do well.

He performed well as in he beat a fighter that was better than him(Gammer, ok so Gammer didn't press the action but excuses, excuses. Barrett did the job)and he had Audley flustered before getting stopped.
He had a gameplan and executed it well.

He didn't do too badly at all - I feel though a move to Cruiserweight would serve him much better though.

He doesn't have the natural size and strength to deal with the Heavyweights of a decent level and above.

he was quick, looked a well schooled boxer. But should really campaign at cruiser. He is too fleshy at heavyweight. But he looked pretty good against Audley before he got tuned in.

He's not built like Haye though. Barrat didn't have a six pack. Lose the gut and he'll be 14 stone 4 no problem.

are Irish fighters allowed to fight for the British cruiserweight championship?

It's a very winnable belt in my opinion and it would be a good opportunity for Barrett.

I think for some people to really criticize him is very judgemental, ok he isnt going to go above domestic level but he wasnt bad, he had nice speed, good movement and at times he boxed nicely.

Gammer was retired and was at least a stone overweight. Barrett took advantage of the situation and well done to him. But lets not kid ourselves he's any good, or any kind of genuine threat at either heavy or cruiser. He's not even British title level.

He flustered Harrison, because Audley is Audley. Barrett's true value was highlighted once Harrison actually decided to throw back.

Lucky for him cos he'd not be anywhere near good enough to win a British title at either cruiser or heavyweight.

Audley Harrison opened up for about 10 seconds in his fight against Barrett, and that was easily enough to send Coleman packing. Says it all. Prizefighter was entertaining enough, but the calibre of fighter involved was woeful. Harrison was reluctant as usual, but still p*ssed it.

Coleman is Francis Barrett's Brother.

I thought he was doing really well Until Audley Caught him with a peach of a shot,His way too small for Heavy but could challenge for Domestic titles at Cruiser for sure.

He has nice hand speed and is light on his feet but lacks the hurtful punch.Fair play tho on his performance last night, really thought he was going to beat Audley after 1 1/2 rounds.

As a heavyweight, or a cruiser. Don't be impressed by last night. It was entertaining, but a woeful standard.

Im afraid to scroll back up the page!Did someone just ask could Irish boxers fight for the British Title? The only way this can happen is if they are from the North eg. Martin Rogan, McCloskey etc. or if they have a British parent.

Barry McGuigan is from Monaghan.

I think one of McGuigans parents was from Northern Ireland which allowed him to claim British citizenship and therefore to fight for the British Title.

He is the cousin of Francis Barrett, they were both trained by my Grandad, Chick Gillen, as amatuers in Galway. I think Coleman should drop down to cruiserweight.

I never said anything about how talented he was or how far he could go, I was just impressed with his performance.

Where are these great domestic Cruisers who are going to beat Coley so convincingly??? In my opinion he get can into the mix, in much the same way as Mickey Steeds and David Dolan have!
