A curates egg of a career, but one just about every British fighter of the past twenty years would happily swap their own for.

Of course Tyson is the beacon, and many will point to the Potter victory too. But I was ringside for his demolition of the Big lanterned jawed Kiwi and for his rugged little war with Keith Long and both were tremendously enjoyable and memorable for different reasons.

I always think he could have gone a step further with right opponent at the right time, but he's been good entertainment on the whole and as gallant as they come whatever the opponent.

Now steady as you go in the cake isle Danny. And a happy retirement to you.

Actually, what happened with the rematch beteen Fury and Mcdrmott ? Purse bids must be due soon.

I hope that Danny does retire now, he has got to think of his long term health, and can't keep taking punches like he has in recent bouts.

Been a fun ride with Danny though.

Beating the undefeated Kali Meehan in 30 seconds wasn't bad either. My fave Danny moment was watching him KO Tyson with a 22 punch combination, winning me money at the same time, it had me jumping round the living room at 5 in the morning

What was cool about the Meehan fight - besides the brevity of it - was that Danny was coming back from the dislocation suffered in the Potter fight, and he scored both Meehan knockdowns with the right, which is what he'd injured, as if to prove a point.

I think he over-acheived but what an up-and-down career, many exciting(ish) nights and he earned a load of cash probably ramming Herbie Hide's "Williams still lives in Brixton" quote down his stupid throat.

Proved himself brave with several come from behind wins, controversy, stunning KOs, an exciting career for sure.

glad to see hes called it a day, entertaining carrer good and bad i think he should of stopped after sosnowski beat him,wouldnt be surprosed if he does some pundit work for sky in the future

All the best Danny. Good time to call it a day now - some great moments in a career which included the British Title, European and World Title challenges, some domestic dust ups, and of course, a win over the legendary Mike Tyson.

It's funny that even now it's all over you can argue whether he over or underachieved.

As you'd expect he's been sensible with his cash from what i understand. So the pile he made from the Vitali beatdown should still be quite high.

He's a likeable guy and unlikely to rock the boat so i wouldn't be surprised to see him as a tv pundit.

Good luck to him. As time passes he'll probably be best remembered for the Tyson fight by most people so i'm sure he'll be happy with that.

No, stay off the fcuking Cherry bakewells. If it wasn't for those fuckers, Williams could have perhaps gone further in his career! He weighed 19st 3lbs for Prizefighter, which is a ridiculous weight for him!

When he weighed 16st 4lbs when he beat Gammer he was sharp, fast & moved decent! He simply cannot do that when he like three stone heavier!

Danny reckons the scales were faulty for that weigh-in, he says he was 18-19 stone when he weighed himself in the gym. Which rings true when you look at the weights in his other fights surrounding the Gammer fight

Scales might have been faulty, but being out by a 21lbs or 28lbs? I highly doubt that! Besides, you could see just by looking at him, Danny was a great deal lighter for the Gammer fight!

Anyway, its up to him how he lives & what he eats. Granted, he's earned the right to enjoy a bakewell tart, but not so excessive, which has been the case sometimes in his career. Danny has even admitted this!

If the scales were out, then they would have been out for Gammer too.

Good point Wales, probably a more deserving vacant title fight than Fury/McDermott, I stand corrected

Sexton/Rogan will probably be upgraded to a vacant British title fight, would be ironic if it was not televised with the British on the line, although I think it will be on Sky personally, common sense will prevail.

He was probably my Fave British fighter this decade and gave me one of the ten most Amazing things i've seen in a boxing ring..of cause i mean the Potter Stoppage
