What fighter could you name that is known to take an absolute ass whoopin on several occasions and come back to win the fight?
I nominate Gatti and Matthew Saad Muhammad.

moore could comeback to win obviously but i think of him more of not having to come from behind or take a beating in a fight because he was so great. basilio, lamotta, marciano and more recently holyfield are fighters that come to mind who would take a great deal of punishment and still win.

I understand what your saying, however the Durelle fight is the quintessential example with absolutely NO serious iconic contender to that event in this category.

don't forget about marquez-pacquiao I. moore was old which made his comeback unreal but durelle wasn't a great fighter. marquez had to comeback from 3 knockdowns to defend his belts against the current pound for pound king and all-time great in pacquiao.
with that said, if pro boxing is still going 1000 years from now, moore-durelle I will still be one of the greatest fights ever.

I thought about naming Marquez, but he didn't win that fight, so I felt he was excluded, given it was a draw (a draw I had him losing, at that).
You've still got his fight with Diaz, though. Wasn't the comeback to end all comebacks, but he sucked it up well.

Got to agree with Saad Muhammad, even though I'm biased, as he is my favourite fighter.
Honourable mention goes to Mike Weaver -v- John Tate.

Arnold Taylor came back to stop Romeo Anaya, after being on the canvas 4 times.

Co sign on Archie & Saad, the first two that came to mind.
Little Red Lopez, Bobby Chacon & Holyfield are three I don't see mentioned yet.

Israel Vazquez is a insanely slow starter, he'll look like an utter amateur at times, but when the wear and tear starts, Vazquez puts his motor on. Especially in the Jhonny Gonzalez fight, it look like Gonzalez was a level up especially in the beginning, then Vazquez took him out.

true about vazquez. he looked out of it in rd 4 in the third marquez fight and came back. jhonny gonzalez is a good fighter but he is the complete opposite of the fighters listed here. i've never seen anyone other than golota pull out a defeat from almost certain victory on a number of occasions.
