layman's scoring

Unless you're a dispassionate judge who scores round by round, you will probably think the winner is the man who finishes strongest or who made the other guy look silly. I wonder if I am guilty of this kind of scoring in the Froch-DIrell fight? I had Dirrell winning a close fight, but I'm probably not qualified to reach this verdict until I score the fight round by round. And making your opponent look clumsy and amateurish doesn't win you points. I also think I may have been swayed by the Primetime commentators who kept talking about how the fighters looked rather than who was scoring. But whichever way I look at it, it was a disappointing performance by Froch and it doesn't augur well for his chances in the rest of the tournament.

Its always difficult to not let things influence the way you score a fight. I'm sure we've all been influenced at some point scoring a fight, whether conciously or subconciously. I think the main thing which caused the disparity with the Dirrell Froch fight is the manner in which Dirrell won his rounds. He finished strong and won his rounds clearly. I really didn't see the outrage that many saw in the Dirrell Froch fight, not from a scoring perspective anyway. I've seen plenty of similar and worse decision that didn't get half attention this fight did. As for Froch's peformance, I thought it was very poor. Dirrell was a bad style match- up for him, but it was the complete lack of creativity that disappointed me. Another couple of rounds and Dirrell would've taken the judges out of the equation.

The thing is everyone including judges score fights in different ways and that is amain reason for having 3 ringside judges for title fights and not just one. This is good reason to have forums like this to discuss these kind of things.
On the note of Froch and the Super 6, I don't think that no one else will trouble him defensively as Dirrell but that's not to say that he won't struggle in other ways against anyone.
i think all the other oppenents are far more aggressive than Dirrell and therefore will be easier to hit.

If you haven't scored it round by round, you ain't scored the fight period.

Who knows, Dirrell might beat Abraham and Ward decisively.
Then people might not be as harsh about a close, strange fight with Froch.
