Gatti vs Corrales

RING magazine mentioned what a war this would have been, and they were only one division apart for a while.

So, Arturo Gatti vs Diego Corrales... I'm going to go for a real-life date for this, of March 2006. Gatti doesn't fight Damgaard in January, and remains at 140... and Corrales comes in 5 months after his loss to Castillo, having stuck the same pounds on he would fail to shift against Casamayor.

So who wins?

Oh and I guess the same question should be asked who wins prime for prime? Since both had title reigns at Super-Feather and Lightweight too, how would they have fared against each other at 130 and 135 too?

Corrales is all wrong for Gatti. Especially below 140. I would take Chico by KO almost every time, after some fireworks mind you.

Anyone else want to chime in on this?

It would explosive for as long as Gatti lasted. I think both of these guys are overrated because of all the thrills they gave us. Corrales was a level above and Arturo just couldn't compete at that level.

I think Gatti could compete, but ultimately we agree on the outcome. Very likely, Corrales would win it.

Depends on the weight and timeframe slightly. Prime for prime (135ish for both) it's a brutal affair with Gatti getting battered and KO'd by Corrales after a few shaky moments for Diego from those monster Gatti counters. By 140 though Corrales had been through hell against Castillo and was fading, whle Gatti was still fighting at a level that was physically devestating (that Gamache fight was brutal). I'd still favor Corrales to pull it out, but not after another aboslute war where Gatti does serious damage to him at least as much as Castillo did because Diego was more static

I personally never saw this Corrales who could just destroy Gatti like you all apparently did. I think Gatti gets rocked possibly dropped a few times, but Corrales wasn't all that hard to drop and Gatti was a hard puncher in his own right. And by the time he fought at 140 he was more in boxing mode where he would trouble Corrales. I think Gatti wins by KO in the 9th after having a hellacious war with Corrales.

I could see that too, I just think that the little bit of technical disparity would make a difference between Corrales rolling with Gatti's shots and Gatti running right into Corales'. The fact that Diego could box with Casamayor is proof of that.

Corrales may have had enough in the physical department as well as the boxing to thwart Gatti.

Gatti couldn't win a round against Castillo. That may turn into a homicide.
