I don't know anything about Remnick, but I would still rate his boxing knowledge on a par with Hauser, Sugar, Merchant, Cosell, Pacheco, and Lampley. How is that for an endorsement? The best thing I have found about boxing books is that I don't have to buy them and the best thing I have found about boxing commentators is that I can't hear them when I turn the volume down.

Put Hauser, Sugar, Merchant, Cosell, Pacheco, and Lampley together and you wouldn't have enough knowledge of what boxing is to fill a thimble.

He wasn't a boxing expert but he was a great writer and researcher. He also won a Pulitzer Prize.
The man doesn't deserve to be trashed. He compared Patterson, Ali, and Liston as personalities or better as African American personalities in a time of turbulrence and how they were viewed. Liston had the personae of a unrepentant thug. Patterson had the personae of a black accomodationist. Floyd Patterson was a sweet man. That might have been his problem in the ring. That's my observation not Remnick's. And Ali was the black nationalist. Those are of course caricatures and I have neither the time nor inclination to review the entire book.
If pugs wrote about other pugs only pugs would read their book.
It's ironic that Jose Torres was a great boxer and prolific writer. He loved Ali. I'll bet Granberry thinks Torres is a crappy writer.

granberry is under the illusion that you have to be an expert on a subject before you can write well about it. this is nonsense. look at me...i know very little about any subject but i write like an angel (and am very well paid for it).
today i shall write about....boxing!

TheOne presents clueless 'writers' who know zero about boxing in his desperate attempts to sell his Ali.
Cluless David Remnick, who has ZERO background in boxing,
is one of TheOne's big "sources".
LOL

In a court of law to be an "expert witness" all you must demonstrate is that you have more knowledge of the subject you are testifying about than an average layman. That's a bit of oversimplification for the attorneys on this board.
What , pray tell. does a gentlemen or lady have to prove before he or she is competent to write a book about boxing.

He is a strange and at times demented guy, those who have had pm,s from him will agree. I dread to think what his reply will be
