put the fight hype words together
"Sources close to the information have just informed us that HBO is currently working on putting together a 140-pound tournament that would feature jr. welterweights Victor Ortiz, Marcos Maidana, WBC champion Devon Alexander and WBA champion Amir Khan. Although contracts have yet to be put together or signed, reports are that representatives for all the fighters have been contacted and are willing and eager to participate. HBO's Jr. Welterweight tournament would be similar to legendary promoter Don King's Middleweight Championship Series held back in 2001, a four-man tournament that pitted champions Bernard Hopkins, William Joppy, Keith Holmes and Felix Trinidad against each other to produce the first undisputed middleweight champion since Marvin Hagler.
Unlike the Super Six Super Middleweight Tournament currently being staged by Showtime, HBO's tournament would take place in a much shorter timeframe, with a winner being crowned in a matter of months as opposed to a couple of years. The first round of fights would feature the two champions defending their titles. The tentative matchups include WBA champion Amir Khan versus Marcos Maidana and WBC champion Devon Alexander versus Victor Ortiz. The winners would move on to face each other in the final bout.
Obviously, the tournament champion would hold 2 out of the 4 major titles in the division, which could set up future bouts or even a second tournament with current IBF champion Juan Urango and/or the winner of the upcoming clash between WBO champion Timothy Bradley and challenger Lamont Peterson. The ultimate goal, however, is to build a future star and worthy challenger for the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport, including Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr."

Wazza wont let amir take part in this because he could lose at least twice. Alexander and Ortiz could cause khan problems

Maidana is Khan's mandatory anyway, so I don't think that it is unrealistic that Warren would let Khan enter this tournament.
It seems like a good set of fights, I hope it happens.

How can he lose more than once? It is just a regular knockout tournament. Isn't it?

All three of those guy's will cause him problems. Maidana might be the most dangerous of the bunch for Khan, because he's an all out banger.

Comparing this tournament to the middleweight one is absurd. When Bradley and Pacquiao aren't part of the mix.
Meantime, it doesn't seem much like Warren's MO for prospects. He usually prefers to wait and wait, milking the live gate and Sky rights in the UK, with his fighters against C-class opposition before springing them immidiately for a shot at the title, bypassing the rights of passage/eliminator against another contender type fights.

Tournament seems incomplete without Bradley, who is the top dog in the division, but it would still be great if this actually went forward. All 4 of these guys could conceivably beat the other.

It'll be a great tournament if they can sort it. These tournies are just what the sport needs IMO
Khan will beat the lot

Alexander would be the problem. Ortiz is finished.

Great news, if it's true.
Warren might not be too happy about it, but I'd imagine Khan would be chomping at the bit to get a piece of this.
I guess it'll come down to how much say he has in his own destiny. The Salita fight has Warren written all over it, as does a fight with McCloskey... there aren't many places to go other than backwards in a stacked division. He could look at Witter or Malignaggi, but neither would garner the same kind of kudos or potential stardom that a tournament winner would.
If the other guys mentioned are up for it and Khan abstains then that'll be his name shagged stateside. Ortiz, Maidana, Kotelnik and Khan are all tied together and his absence would be well and truly spotlighted and ridiculed, as was Bute's in the super six. Doubt HBO would look too favourably upon him afterwards either.
I just don't see a viable excuse that could be used. Not without Khan looking like a plum, something I'm sure Warren's used to, but would Khan be as willing to step aside? I think he has enough say in his destiny to do the right thing.

Finished? He was beating Maidana handily until he decided to get into a tear up.
Witter fought like absolute crap against Alexander, to the point of looking like a shot fighter. Khan would be a completely different kettle of fish, potentially a better boxer and definitely faster than him. If Khan's beard's the sticking point then his biggest challenge comes from Maidana and possibly Ortiz. I'd actually rate Ortiz as a better boxer than Alexander.

Bit silly not to have the two LWW's recognised as the top in the division (Pacquiao and Bradley) in the tournament.

Do you really think Ortiz is finished? I think it is very hard to say that about a 22 year old kid who I have seen enough of to believe he can do something at LWW or WW. Maidana was too much too soon for Ortiz, he hits like a sledgehammer. Ortiz quit in the ring-so what, doesn't mean its the end of him, he knew he was on the way to getting KTFO after taking a beating in the previous rounds even if he was ahead on points. Anyone that has seen him prior to the Maidana fight knows that the way he fought that night isn't the real Ortiz, he got dragged into Maidanas type of fight! Oscar DLH and Golden Boy have alot of questions to answer about pushing a top prospect along too fast too early in his career, I hope they cop the f**k on.Dont count Ortiz out just yet...

It's great idea, and the kinda thing the sport needs in these times of numerous belt holders.
Khan, I am sure, would be interested in it.
Warren would be dead against it to be quite truthful. As Waren calls the shots, dont hold your breath.

Bradley/Campbell winner should get in it ahead of Ortiz. I dont see Warren letting Khan do it but it would be good to see Maidana vs Ortiz 2
