Hoppa versus the Iron Rhino

Today's sausage wrapper has an article about an upcoming bout between Hoppa and Michael Kirby in Newcastle on 4th December:
http://manly-daily.whereilive.com.au/sp ... for-hoppa/
As this point of writing, the schedule does not disclose such a bout, but maybe is in the pipeline.
If they do get into the ring, it may be curtains for Hoppa, who despite having a heavy punch carries a glass jaw, where as the Rhino has a granite jaw but not as heavy punching power.

There best be enough money in it for Hoppa because it'll be his last fight........................Kirby will stop Hoppa between round 4-6!!!

What is hopoate thinking!!!
He should be fighting guys like richard tutaki until he improves his skills, this is a risky fight for him, kirby is slower than wilson though and fights on the inside so hopoate might be ok.
Got to respect him for only fighting the best in australia but it could end his career, another loss.

If the proposed heavyweight tournament in Newcastle on Dec 4 does eventuate, Hoppa will be fighting Justin Whitehead.
Hoppa is no longer the OZ champ as the article states.

Who else is in the tournament Antons?
This is exactly what Aus boxing needs a heavy tourney
Seen Whitehead vs Solo on canvas classics a couple of weeks ago, Whitehead is a very good boxer with probably the best jab out of any of the heavys i've seen in Australia.
I think Solo took too long to get into the fight and if a rematch took place Solo would stop him in the mid rounds...Solo had him finished in round six until the referee somehow jumped in just before Solo was about to finish and placed an untimely 8 count on Whitehead and for the majority of the last few rounds Whitehead was in trouble wobbling all over the place.

Not a great deal is known atm. The promoter (new to the game) had booked the date with Combat Sports Authority of NSW & contacted a few heavyweights.
He claims it'll be televised by Fox, but Fox doesn't know anything about it.
Wait & see I guess.

I shouldn't have referred to it as tournament, due to NSW's mandatory 5-day rest period (recently reduced from 7)
No drama in other States, where a boxer can fight more than once on same card/day...providing ringside doctor passes him/her fit to fight.
It's a one night heavyweights clash.

No, Hoppa v Kirby is a done deal.
Not confirmed at all but possibly Cronje v Haumono, Wilson v Whitehead and Meehan on the same card.

Good to see a 200k purse card, without TV coverage falling into place

No it's got TV
it's also going to be great seeing evenly matched Heavyweights that aren't scared to fight each other .

If it is on TV, it isn't Fox and the only other freebie option is TEN ONE HD!

I've just come back from the press conference in Newcastle today and I found out that it's on FOX sports on Friday 4th December 2009, not pay per view so all of Australia can watch it or go and watch it live at Newcastle Entertainment Center.

This has been a fight card that has been very interesting to watch eventuate. It seemed to good to be true when first announced but from all accounts its on and its great to see that its on Fox Sports and its a real bet to find a winner in any of the bouts.

The tournament is a great idea. Prizefighter does great business in the UK and I wondered why other countries hadn't yet picked up the format.
An Aussie HW version would be great. Unfortunately for you guys, none of them are world-beaters, but it's a very competitive domestic division and a one-night tourney would be very exciting and unpredictable.

It's not a tournament. Just a night of heavyweight boxing.

good thing you got that in there

a nice backhanded compliment where you can still claim you were simply being positive.

Remind me what happened when Hoppa got his "world title shot" in Las Vegas?
Anyway, about the event - it's not a tournament in the Prizefighter style? Just a set of different HW matches? So what's the issue with 5-day suspensions between matches?
Or it's more of a "Heavyweight Explosion" type of affair?

It is five heavyweight fights. 1 x 12 rounder, 1 x 10 rounder, 2 x 8 rounders, 1 x 4 rounder. Call it what you like.

Well, it still looks to be a great night's entertainment. Heavyweight may not be Aus' strongest division, but its the most competitive in terms of potential even-money matches.
