Who was the first champ that had tattoos.

I recently had an interesting discussion with a very old person and they believe that great fighters didn't have tattoos.

Can anyone answer this?

Tom Sharkey had a bog ole ship on his chest.
I know he wasnt champ though. Great fighter though.
Bat Battalino had a couple I think.

Jimmy Braddock had a tattoo on his forearm.

I think the old timers were more interested in tattooing their opponents
face with blows, to worry about getting any skin decorations of their own.
