good performance from mccloskey. he is awkward.hard to hit.has brilliant stamina.good chin.can dig a bit and is very good to watch..think he has a chance of going on to win a world title.mcloskey vs khan has to happen!! how do you guys rate that performance????.probably not his best but still a very good display. rossilla was very very tough! i expected him to fold over in the 1st few rounds. where next for mcloskey??

McCloskey would have got to Rasilla more quickly if he spent more time setting up his power shots, feinted more and mixed it up a bit.
He was too reliant on countering with single hard back hand punches.
Good fighter but needs more variety for my money to excel at the highest level.

Not bad. Needs to throw a few more combinations though.

Very average, nowhere near world level.

I was told last month they had already been offered the fight for early next year.

I was on the McCloskey win by KO large, I was starting to get very nervous.

Khan would rip McCloskey apart.
McCloskey looked decent against quite a limited opponent. Think he'd get battered against world class opponents.

Well to beat Paul Applebey and win a European title in such a short space of time is huge! He is a natural counter-puncher, dont expect him to go all guns blazing, he picked his shots lovely and Ko'd his opponent!
Why are we questioning the performance?

You've mixed up Paul McCloskey and Martin Lindsay.

No defense, pot shooting against a Spanish lightweight champion, yeah the signs are all there he'd beat Khan

Khan should have been stopped against limond! Khan is overrated the public dont buy him hence his pay per view figures are about 10000 per fight!

I haven't been impressed with McCloskey so far but can't deny he's got very good power, a good engine and seems to be tough as nails, sometimes that's all you need, just look at Froch.
Khan would be far too sharp for him imo. He might've had a good shot at an upset before the Prescott fight but if the fight comes off now he'd be outboxed and intermittently stung until cracks appear and he gets taken out mid to late in the fight.

Yeah.
This simply was not a fight to see who was "Champion of Europe."
For sure, the guy came in late, there was an injury etc- fair do's.
But, put simply, this was a shocking for a European title fight (one of many awful match ups for that belt.)

I'd be surprised if McCloskey won more than 3 rounds against Khan. He is to slow and basic and would be out boxed with ease.

Khan was kocked out by Limond but the ref bottle it! Thats how good Khan is!

Khan's improved his defense and his boxing skills. His footwork and his guard have come along greatly. McCloskey is to slow and would be unlikely to catch him with anything meaningful. Of course there is a chance for a KO because Khans chin isn't there, but McCloskey would find it very difficult to find that chin, you can't hurt what you can't hit. He would be pelted with fast combos from Khan and would lose clearly. I don't think McCloskey has proven he's world class yet anyways. All the players at 140 would eat him up.

He outclassed and nearly shutout a top 10 fighter. Tell me when McCloskey does that and I'll rate him higher.

Totally agree. The European Belt is much devalued thesedays.
As for Khan-McCloskey...McCloskey needs to beat a top 30 fighter first before we start chatting about him challenging for a world title! Kotelnik would beat him handily I think, let alone Khan.
