I'm also of the thinking that Danny ought to retire... He's been a great servant but the time to go has most certainly arrived.

As the biggest Danny Williams fan sitting at my desk I completely agree with the above comment. The only reason I see him taking this fight is to go out in a blaze of glory with a big knockout victory in front of his fans.

danny williams is a loser, he showed that in prizefighter and i know it was only a three round fight but the guy was awful.

sexton v rogan was a final eliminator so lets hope sexton wipes the floor with him when they eventually meet around january/february time.

Agree with the original poster.

He should have quit after beating Scott Gammer in my view.
That would have been a fitting farewell for a great guy and a very popular champion.

I'm not one to tell a fighter to retire, it is work and a lot of guys need a few quid, however, Danny has actually earned real well, and should still be a millionaire from the Klit fight

If Danny can't beat Edgars Kalnars (Danny will win). Then he should just retire there and then . Sexton should be his last fight win or lose.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he lost this, if Kalnars comes to win. And even if Danny wins, I'm certain Sexton will beat him.

It's all well and good that boxers say they want to go out on a win, but when does this ever happen? If they DO win, it just convinces them that they've still got it, so they fight on until they lose again.

I think it's a shame he didn't hang em up after beating Scott Gammer. At the time I remember thinking that it was his last chance for a glorious swansong, and it looks like I might have been right.

Still, I guess it's up to Danny in the end.

Danny's punch resistance looks to have completely gone his bravery is without question, but that old noggin and body of his just cannot take the shots like it used to.

I remember an interview with Danny Williams on Radio 5 live (possibly on the Friday afternoon Simon Mayo show) not long after the Vitali beating. He said Islam forbade fighting for money and it was part of his Isalmic education that he would learn when to stop boxing - presumably this religious epiphany would coincide nicely with when the multi million purses stopped rolling in.

Still surprised he hasn't stopped by now.

He's back training with Jim McDonnell now, so the silly training regime and hangers-on have gone. I think he knows that if he performs badly this time having trained properly then he'll call it a day. Since he left Jimmy Mac his whole training set-up & general lifestyle had gone downhill, he had too many yes-men around and no-one would really challenge him or dare say no to him.

Exactly, he got what 30k for fighting Tyson, and even then his own promoter had to cough up as the guy in Mephis didn't. I doubt he got more than a few hundred thousand for fighting Vitali.

maybe me calling him a loser was a little harsh coz i have to admit it was a great moment when he beat tyson, but he's been god awful in the last 18 months or so and i just think we need to give these so called 'new breed' a chance, him having the belt does nothing for heavyweight boxing here in the uk coz i know a lot of people dont like watching williams.

Really? His chin has looked severely cracked ever since he fought Vitali - he's been hurt in virtually every fight since. Christ even Audley gave him a caning!

I'm amazed to hear you say that Eric - he looks totally gone to me. If it wasn't for his bollocks like space hoppers he wouldn't have been competitive for the last three years.
