not many fighters call it a day unbeaten or during a long winning streak at the twilight of their careers. the red blotches on their boxrec records seem to increase. but why is this ? ... why is age such a determining factor?

do fighters lose their engine?

do they lose their punch power?

does their punch resistance diminish?

are the fighters just getting better and better with time, therefore a good young un will normally beat a good old un?

is it a mental thing, do fighters lose their drive, determination and ambition?

I think it's all of those things you mentioned.

A few fighters, like B-Hop, can adapt with age. But few do it as well.

I think it depends on the person and their talent. It also depends on if they know when to stop and most boxers when they get to a certain age will be fighting the best they have fought so it's not always a suprise that they have a few loses at the end of their career. Look at Hatton for example.
