Hatton-Marquez in talks for Manchester fight at 140 lbs

Juan Manuel Marquez and Ricky Hatton have begun talks to fight in Manchester, England, promoter Richard Schaefer said.
No date has been discussed.
“That’s one of things we have to discuss,” Schaefer said. “I’m going to be talking to the Hattons. And Marquez wants to do it. We’ll see if we can get it done.”
Marquez is coming off a one-sided decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September, for which he went up two weight classes.
Hatton’s last fight was a one-punch, second-round knockout loss against Manny Pacquiao in May, after which the popular Briton hinted at retirement.
Marquez and Hatton would likely meet at 140 pounds.

Think Marquez can definitely make a struggle of it - 140 isn't ideal for him as he's not really built for anything above 140, but technically he is so superior to Hatton that he may well win it.

Oh dear. I would far rather Hatton retired. He seems like a top bloke, and I didn't enjoy seeing him getting knocked out so badly last time.

I'm a big Ricky Hatton fan but I think this will be his last fight. Can see Marquez outboxing him and possibly taking him out late sadly. Hatton is past his prime and I would rather see him retire but if this lands it Manchester I will definitely be attending to salute a great career and a fighter who has brought much excitement to british fans.

Marquez - Hatton makes financial sense for both guys. Marquez probably hasn't made mega bucks until recently and can cash out with a big money fight, probably bigger than he could make anywhere else. Meanwhile, Hatton should still have plenty of dough, but it would be useful if he could leverage the TV rights to one of his fights into a tv dates for his promotional company.
And, from a fan's point of view, it works as well. Of course, they're both damaged goods, but they're still both quality operators, and all we can ask for in this world are fights which are relatively even, which this would be.
So, financially, and from a fan's perspective, it makes sense.
I just hope neither man sustains lasting damage.

Would love to see Juan Manuel Marquez box live - I will definitely be there if this one gets made - JMM is one of my favourite fighters. He is good enough to beat Hatton too. Ricky isnt slick, quick or clever enough to beat JMM at 140lbs IMO.

Would feel like a 'cashing out' fight for both of them, the winner probably getting another biggish fight against someone like Mosely or Cotto to 'cash out' some more?

I don't think it will be close at all--Ricky gets beaten easily.

Hatton better start getting in training now if it's in May - he needs to lose a shedload of weight.
It'll be another 12 weeks of:
"This is what Ricky Hatton's all about"
"JMM is the best lb4lb fighter on the planet, and Ricky Hatton wants to be the best lb4lb fighter on the planet"
"I think this shows what Ricky Hatton's all about"
"I've always wanted to be the best lb4lb fighter in the world and it's the only thing i've got left to achieve"
"Ricky Hatton's fearless, this is what Ricky Hatton's all about"
"If Ricky Hatton beats JMM he's back up there as one of the best lb4lb fighters in the world"
Continue until bored.

I booked tickets to see JMM fight Rocky Juarez in Vegas in September 2007. The week before the fight, with flights all booked, the fight was called off!! So if it was in Manchester I would go (and hopefully not jinx it!).

i thnk hatton wins , late ko or points
marquez is very near the end and has been in many wars , hatton was destroyed in his last fight but hasnt been in the wars that marquez has been in
also , he can match speed (hand and foot) with marquez and is a bigger puncher

This is an interesting 1 because:
1. Hatton is so much bigger/stronger than Marquez naturally, mayweather was stronger than Marquez and Hatton was stronger than Mayweather
2. Marquez is a much better boxer, with the better technique
3. Diaz a worse version of Hatton gave Marquez a very good hard fight
I either see Marquez being overpowered or outboxing Ricky and smashing him time and again with quality shots. Ricky needs to stick to what he does well, leaning on his man, wrestling and bashing him up on the inside

Don't worry. Hatton will wrestle all day long!
Jmm by ko! That would mean he would be knocked out by a one time fly. One time superfeather and one time feather. Is thsy some kind of record for a supposed pfp fighter?
