Best for best Roy is outweighed here by 15 pounds, his speed advantage is minimal, he's facing the hardest hitter of his career. This is a the same guy who avoided a comebacking Buster Douglas in 1997 . . .Roy would be so confident of a victory he wouldn't even sign the contract.

Roy's chin cannot take the Ellis sneaky straight right hand, end of story.

this would be easy work for roy. ellis wouldn't beat him at middle or heavy.

I'm not so sure Roy wouldn't do just fine in this fight. It's a pick'em for me. We are talking about the Jimmy Ellis from WBA championship fame and not the less descript fighter that George Foreman fought late in his career correct?

Yes, the WBA champion Ellis is the boxer I was referring to.

In fact, I didn't even know there was a later Jimmy Ellis, but I did lose interest in boxing for about 10 years and he must have been around in that time frame.

I'm pretty sure Foreman picked him as an opponent just so he could have that moniker on his "notched" list and many of us would be so foggy in our memories that we would credit him with another "namebrand" win.

He was very low-key, Yancey. From Idaho. Foreman carried him, & Steele did his usual fvck-up job, at one point actually jumping in to stop the fight, & then changing his mind. Idiot.

Let's see, Jones fought exactly one fight at HW, winning a decision over a hand picked "titleist" who was one of the top 5 HWs of a relatively weak era, while Ellis had over 20 HW fights and beat Martin, Bonavena, Quarry, Patterson and Chuvalo.

Perhaps if Jones had actually fought as a HW for a few years and took some of the same types of match making risks that Ellis. But he didn't, so he would have probably been stopped at some point by a short right hand from Ellis.

This is kind of like saying how would Ray Leonard have fared against Eddie Mustafa Muhammed. After all, Leonard did beat a LH titleist.

so because roy only had one fight at heavy means he gets ko'ed by a short right hand from ellis? honestly, i think ellis has trouble beating ruiz much less jones.

My opinion is based on the fact that the hand picked, speed challenged Ruiz was able to hit Jones with a few right hands, and Ellis, who is a magnitude faster in all respects than Ruiz would most likely be able to catch Jones with clean right.

RJJs lack of experience in the HW divison just makes it pretty difficult to pick him over a very capable HW who beat many of the top guys during a pretty talented era in the division. Since Jones went back down after a token win over a hand picked guy indicates that he probably wasn't real confident of his chances in the division.

And I think Ruiz probably would have been a reasonably tough fight for Ellis as well, but given the fact that Ellis beat two guys who were much tougher and way better fighters than Ruiz, I think he would have been able to win beat him pretty handily.

So how do you see Leonard vs Mustafa-Muhammed?
