Fewkes out injured

Talented chap John Fewkes - who ballooned after his defeat by Gethin but has since shifted a load of weight - was apparently due to fight in Notts tomorrow but is off the bill injured.

Plus, lovely fella Jez Wilson who is six unbeaten has been let down by infamous pain in the arse Lee Noble and is very fed up.

Is it a genuine injury do you think Ian or was the Fireball not redy to get back in the ring yet?

The sooner he gets back boxing the better as far as I am concerned - he is too skillful to be wasting his prime years..

Called him tonight TT but got his voicemail. What I will say for the conspiracy theorists is that I never saw him confirmed on tomorrow's bill...but John told me weeks ago he was on and I have no reason to doubt that.

I kid you not when I say he blew up in weight...put a lot on. But I saw him at his trainer's 50th a few weeks ago and he looked in great nick. Got the taste back (for boxing, not pork sandwiches) and said he was just fed up of eating sh1t and being a fat bastard. He won't do lightweight again but was walking around at just over 10st.

Talented lad.

Great info Ian - glad to hear he is back in shape and ready to take on the domestic 10st scene.

Just think, if he had been ring fit and ready he could have been involved in the next Prizefighter - with his style I would have given him a fair shot at winning it too.

Don't judge him purely on his loss to Gethin mate - he is much better than he showed that night.

Even if he does cap his career with an English title and falls short against the best in Britain, I would never describe him as 5hite. That is harsh assessment.

For a little ginger he can really fight!

I was ringside for the Gethin fight and stood in the changing room afterwards when John was getting his wraps off.

I thought he would have been smashed at getting an L but he was not phased at all.

That perhaps emphasised his mentality at that time in his career.

If noble has Saunders lined up, gotta be a 5k payday, you can't really blame him, we all have mouths to feed

I was sat in the changing room straight after - sat with John, Lee Edwards and Jez Wilson. That was it and on the other side of the room was Ricky Hatton and their team. Ricky was a top lad, came over with words of encouragement.

Not quite sure if I agree with your assessment Gomez mate...John seemed a bit shell shocked to me and couldn't understand that his legs wouldn't work.

Anyway, I hope he gets back in the mix.

has anyone else suspected that Fewkes, given some pretty blatant problems in terms of his professionalism, will never end up achieving what some have predicted for him?

poor man's Frankie Gavin, comes to mind...?

A very balanced view Ian.
Noble is 22 and has had 23 pro fights.

Your mate Wilson is 30 and has boxed 5 times in Sheffield and once in Doncaster.

Well Ian, all I can say is that Glyn called this right about Noble.
I was having a coffee with him last week, and at that stage the show was holding up nicely but he was VERY nervous about whether Noble would box.
Ken Morton didn't think there was a problem - but there you go.
On the subject of Fewkey I really don't know what went wrong.
He has ability in abundance and when Maloney got hold of him and started to showcase him a little, I thought this was it, and Glyn had finally produced a titlist from a raw young kid.
I only know how hard Glyn took it after the Gethin fight.
There is still time.
I really hope he does it.
As for the crass shite comment - how many times have you seen Fewkes fight, Tommy Gunn ?
You do shoot from the hip at times.
Wouldn't mind betting you've only seen the Gethin fight.

What do you mean 'balanced'? What has the amount of respective fights they've had got to do with the fact that Noble is well known for shooting his mouth off?

fewkes is a talented lad and still got potential i think. i watched him against that tough polish kid in manchester and he boxed very good i was impressed, he just lacks a little sting in the tail but still a good kid. but obviously something not right somewhere with the weight issues blowing up so big but some fighters are like that they cant be told... danny harding was the same i use to go n watch him he was always fat little shit :TU:

Is he ? That's news to me. Why don't you back that statement up.
In the article and the thread the only ones shooting their mouths off are Jez Wilson and Ian McNeilly.

So, obviously a substitute opponent was waiting in the wings ?

Yawn, yawn ..... Dogbreath surfaces.
Ask the matchmaker.
The next line down in my post says Ken Morton didn't think there was a problem.
One of these days we'll see insightful posts from you, because I know you've got the knowledge.
Why the continuous angst against certain parties ?

Actually, you might be right. Maybe he isn't well known for it. Maybe it's just me who thinks he is a bit 'much'. Don't think so though. Perhaps you ought to ask around. I don't need to do that. Hey, the world is full of characters, it takes all sorts, etc and well done you for defending him. Or perhaps just admit the connection you have with him. That's the flaw of these forums...full of people with pseudonyms.

Anyway, Dominic tells me I was wrong about this particular withdrawal and I'm more than happy to clarify matters:

http://news.boxrec.com/news/2009/noble- ... says-ingle

Good luck to him with his new arrival - puts boxing into perspective, for sure.

I'm not shooting my mouth off about anything. Lee Noble is a reasonably talented lad. I've seen him box on several occasions - much better than his record when he's up for it. Rather unreliable though - but only my opinion.

So if his opponent pulled out 6 days before the fight, was there really a need for boxer and journo to slag off the opponent and for the boxer to retire from boxing ?

Was Wilson offered another opponent ?
Does the journo even care ?

If I didn't care (generally), I wouldn't have rang him up in the first place.

And if I didn't care about fairness, etc, I wouldn't have let Dominic have his full say.

I asked him if he HAD a replacement and he said no, he wasn't fighting. I didn't ask him if he was offered one.

In hindsight do you think you might have been wise to, before openly slating a young boxer ?

If he wasn't offered another opponent, why not ?

I think Fewkes is an excellent talent can't wait to see him back in the ring. Despite him not being a KO artist his fights are all-action.

Power to the Gingers!!
