Would have been a great fight. The difference for me is that Duran had a superior defence. The best defence I've ever seen on a come-forward aggressive fighter. Eventually Duran would be able to dominate because he would simply be getting hit less.

Depends on Duran from which era. Prime Duran would be a nightmare of a fight for anyone fighting today including Pac Man. Fighters today are too sisified than fighters of his era who went 15 rounds no problem with all types of weight and size disadvantages.

Would it be fair to say that offensively, Pacquiao has proven he can do this, but, defensively, he's destined to come up short?

Duran is really also much the bigger man naturally, which helps if the fight is at a certain weight. My honest take is people largely over-rated Duran (so many people, on so many boards, proudly proclaim having grown up watching Duran in his time, & I think it's coloured the judgement of more than a few, myself) but I think he just has to have the advantage against Pacquiao. It's growing harder by the day to count Pacquiao out of any hypothetical fight, though --- LOL.

:?? can't figure..
3-2 for Duran if its a five fight rivalry.
and a 1-1-1 for a trilogy.

A prime Duran would have been too much for Pac. Pac when everything is set and done no doubt will be considered an all-time great. However, Duran was better at every facet of the game. Duran was better at boxing, defense, power, and stamina than Marquez and we all know what Marquez was able to do against Pac. Duran wins every single time imo.

At lightweight? Duran
At Welterweight? Duran
Not sure there is a weight class that Pac would have the advantage unless we weight drain Duran below lightweight.

i believe this is one of the greatest fantasy match-ups you could make in the history of boxing. this fight would be a can't miss action classic. de jesus proved you could hurt duran at 135. manny is going to hurt duran at some point no matter how good his defense is. if i had to bet on this fight i'd take manny but this fight is really too close to call imo.

So Morales beats Pac but Duran struggles with him? Well.......Maybe there's some interference goin' on ....like a bad FM station, I hear ya knockin' but ya aint comin' in.

I would have said Duran without hesitation before the Cotto fight. We'll ask this question again if Pac-Man ko's Mayweather.

i still think its duran at any weight against manny but it would certainly be an all time dust up purely because both men would absolutely and genuinely relish this fight from the moment it is signed.

Two of the very best in my time of watching boxing.

It's hard to pick against Duran but Pacman looks sensational at the moment.

Well you have to remember Duran didn't have day-before weigh-ins, so the Lightweight Duran is equivalent to the Featherweight Pacquiao (he was 137 lbs. On fight night for Marquez 1) and Welterweight Duran is equivalent to the Pacquiao from his Super Feather days onward.

I agree with you, Collins.
I think that Pac is the best thing to come along since Duran.
I find it hard to bet against Duran in a match against anybody his weight.
However, Duran was not always in the best shape, and Pac is always ready condition wise.
If both are in their best condition, I'd lean toward Duran. But who knows?
Isn't it nice to have somebody that is truly worthy of comparison to the great Duran?
I'm enjoying watching this "manufactured" welter embarass today's best.
This is a guy they have to force-feed into the 147lb. division. Freddie tells me he walks around in the 130's.
Just my opinion.

Yes, Rick. It's an absolute pleasure watching him in action.

Got to add my voice to Rick and Collins's... It's a great thing to finally have an active fighter who conducts himself in and out of the ring that makes him worthy of being boxing's best. We can also compare him with past greats without it being just about hype.

Goodness. I think it's the spur of the moment that are bringing these questions.
