If you watched that, despite what others might say, you won't forget it.

Very true, Nelson vs De Leon is still talked about today!

It was a bad bad fight.. but then they allow "Voluntaries" against men who lose "eliminators" - what do people really expect?

Had there been a different challenger, then Small may have trained , prepared, a fought differently.

That simply was not a "Double Championship" fight.

We will remember that as one of the fights ever to be shown on friday fight night. I will also remember Brook / Elwell for a fight that should of never been sanctioned in the first place. 2 terrible fights shown of Friday fight night this year

Yes its frustrating, especially given that his last fight was an eliminator. But there have been worst voluntary defences. Infact, a recent British Light Middleweight challenger - Jamie Coyle was surely alot worst. McDonagh had won a British title eliminator fight but never got the opportunity before. ut

Its frustrating how it panned out and the timing of it, but I don't think McDonagh wasn't "unsanctionable". All his loses have been very very close and he has some good wins. But yes, it should have been Webb fighting in an ideal world.

If Small hadn't prepared assuming McDonagh was a clueless soft touch, then he is a fool. McDonagh, whilst tremendously frustrating and dull to watch, has some good skills and good wins. I don't know why Small would train so much harder to fight a guy who only beat McDonagh by a point.

Obv it was a bad fight but that is due far more to the terrible clash of styles as they are both counterpunchers. I had small winning the fight clearly enough as he tried to force it more and McDonagh was too negative. In fairness neither fighter is anyway near as bad as this clash of styles made them look tonight.

Agree Coco.... but at the same time really dissapointed Small couldn't figure him out and had to rely on McDonagh's fade to get the win.

McDonagh must really hate going to the cards - all of his loses would have been overturned but for 1 round. Not saying he was robbed in any of his defeats (although he definately beat Andrew Facey handily so I am told - which was his other black mark on his record - with a draw).

Yeah while I think Small has definately shown already that he is a good domestic champion, fighters of a higher calibre can work the likes of Mcdonagh out. Saying that Wayne Alexander struggled too.

Alexander had his limitations and it was near the end of his career when they met.

It was a shocker some decent stuff on the undercard though.

Thomas McDonagh - "I'd fight him again tomorrow"

After his points defeat by Anthony Small for the British & Commonwealth Light middleweight titles, Thomas McDonagh said that although he was disappointed and thought he "might have nicked it" he would happily fight him again tomorrow if given the chance Interview:http://www.brandhatton.com/TV/News

Pity he didn't fight him tonight! I felt McDonagh was mainly to blame for the negativity

Well, he lost an eliminator, and lost a British title challenge- so presumably all he can look forward to is a direct challenge for the European title now?

Exactly. If he'd have dug in from round eight onwards, he'd have won that. He 'gassed' alarmingly.

Absolutely terrible and the two should never share the same canvas again.

Couldn't disagree more with the majority of comments here.

Was ringside last night and couldn't take my eyes off the fight, Small on top throughout, no doubt he won. Boring? Never, clash of styles yes, untidy yes, boring??? Come on, it was captivating.

Annoyed by Small's entrance? Why?? The same people who slated McEnroe for his antics now complain tennis has no characters left. Cheesey entrance certainly - but love him or loath him, he always gets a recation - the Spurs scarf certainly did........

Anyway - what about Craig Watson, what a finish!!

:o Couldn't take your eye's off the fight?! I had trouble keeping my eye's on it. Thought it was a very poor fight..and yes, boring, cant see anyone rushing to see a replay...Could you sit through a replay of that crap?

This fight wouldn't sell out a phone box if they re-matched it.

I don't believe I'm doing this - but on one point I'm going to defend Mr Small.
Fact - Sam Webb was offered the fight and turned it down.
To defend your title you have to have an opponent.
If the only challenger was McD and he was prepared to step up to the plate - end of.
As for Small's pretentions to be an elite World Champ - oh dear.
Fair dos to the guy he gets people talking - but to have posters comparing him to Naz and Ali - :o
Let's just put right people's perceptions about him being a ticket seller. Absolute garbage.
That's why he's never headlined his own show on home ground. Always been down to the opponent and undercard to sell the tickets.
I'm sorry, but amateur trash talking. flash suits, blatent use of religion, riding a scootor without a licence, and a scream mask don't cut it.Worse of all encouraging Ricky to put more weight on by shopping at Netto - shame on you.
Now I do hope our friend DG had his tongue firmly in his cheek when saying he was one of the best in the World, and arguably the best at the weight in the UK.
Then the classic post of the year from Nobby Nobbins - Small will be a PPV attraction.
Reality check for everyone.
He will not dine at the Rhodes table.
Rhodes is looking forwards not backwards.
He does not deserve an EBU chance.
The fight out there for him is the rematch with Pryce, but I really dont think Small fancies it at all.
So, let's hope Sam Webb now sees the fight in a different light, and steps up to the plate.

Yes, considering the pace of the fight I was stunned to see him so tired. I was equally as dissapointed in McDonagh and as Coco said, his negativity, cost him the result and cost the fans a decent fight.

He's shown a distinct lack of "fighting guts" before - the Alexander fight was largely the same. Wayne was there to be beaten, all McDonagh needed to do was to dig in for a few rounds. However, I never thought his stamina was quite so shocking. He never looks "cut", and it showed in his performance.

I think he is going to look back on a career of what ifs, cause he has alot of natural talent.

didn't think it would be a good fight and it wasn't.

mcdonagh's always bored me to tears on previous occasions.

and small likes an opponent to lead to him.

next. :>
