Ok gents - I want to know if you guys think there is:

a) anyone coming through the Oz ranks that has the potential, dedication and trainer to become a world champ; and

b) a true world class trainer in oz that is capable of taking a fighter to the top (excluding the obvious J Lewis)?

I don't mean world champ as is IBO Blah Blah Blah. I mean Tszyu like world champ.

With regard to a) - I believe Zappa is a chance if he continues to develop and increases his level of opponents a little.
b) - I don't think there are a lot of true world class trainers in OZ. I think Craig Christian is probably one of the better ones we have and I would like to see if Paul Briggs sticks at it because he is a good operater by the look of it.

I definitely agree about Paul Briggs. I like that his directions in the corner are very well thought out and precise.

From the early stages I have liked what I've seen of Joel Brunker. I'm not prepared to say he has the makings of a world champ just yet but I do think he is one to keep an eye on. He has been very active and has a good kit of punches. He works the body and also throws from good angles. Obviously we'll find out more when he steps up the opposition but like I said, one to keep an eye on.

Andrew Green from Perth has a lot of God-given talent (I'm not religious, but it's the best description I can think of). I would say that he is more naturally gifted than Danny Green, he has superior foot and handspeed and comparable power. His chin is an un-answered question, and he has been nowhere near active enough, but he is only 25. With the right direction he could go a long way.

at this stage I still think Adam Forsyth has the talent to make an impact at 200 lbs.

Zappa needs to be correctly guided to make the most of his talent. I see him in the KT mold. KT got there by having amazing talent, but even more amazing work ethic.

Australia's quality trainers is a hard one. There are no real modern style trainers over here. I reckon Briggs may be able to develop into something better than the standard trainer, but it takes time and application. There is a science that should be employed when training all elite athletes. The base is similar in all grouped sports. Ie power sports, endurance storts, speed sports. But the skill sets vary. That is why it is difficult to have a singular trainer at the elite level.

Daniel has to prove a little more yet mate....but he still has hope. I ask you this question about daniel. He never appears to come to the ring cut and toned like so many boxers, does he do weight training to develop his power? If not, why not? It is one of the cogs that sometimes seems to be missing from his arsenal.

Best Prospect: Katsidis (he still hasn't won a world title yet)

Best Trainer: Something Australia dont have any of, but i could Give it to Graham Shaw he has turned a fighter he is not as gifted naturally and turn him into an IBO World champ i don't think Briggs has the leadership of a real trainer just yet, watching the contender he makes common sense calls that any hardcore fan can make. I think he needs to do an apprenticeship overseas under a top trainer. Billy is a good trainer, but i think he to shake off that whole lebo mentality and take it alot more serious he needs to command his troops when they go to war, he asks them doesnt tell them what needs to be done and why its important...He has a Prince Nas & Manny Stewart relationship lets his fighters do what ever they want and doesn't enforce himself.

Geale does more cardio/running etc more than weights.I have questioned him re:weights etc,he said his starting to do more these days.
But I reckon he does them at least once a week.

I reckon he would get more explosive power if he did do more gym work.

He mainly does crunches,medicine ball work etc.

Has anyone seen Omar Shaick(Super middle) hes had like 4 - 5 fights, looks pretty tidy, sould keep a close eye on him... was a very good amateur

Omar Shaick had his last fight at Mansfield Tavern on 20 Nov. V Japanese boxer from the Gold Coast making his debut.
Had to work hard to get a UD.
Future Australian champ ? Don't hold your breath.

Tim Tszyu

Best prospects; Oyewale Omotoso,Leonardo Zappavigna,Jarrod Fletcher.

Best trainers; Paul Briggs has the ability to be a great trainer, he has the ability to get on that level with a fighter,he really has been the star of the contender.
Craig Christian has a decent stable and has proved his one of the best.
I'm a massive Johnny Lewis fan but I think someone made me realize something about Johnny that i overlooked....Johnny cant read the fight the same as he once could.
Hussein seems to be doing well, theres some decent trainers getting around, it's not all doom and gloom.

Omar Shaick is a top prospect he will go well as a pro, he has the wright attatude to boxing.

we might just have to wait and see, Lenny Zappa also didnt have the best start to his career he was floored by a no namer but look at him now getting ready for the US and by far has the most chances in AUS of earning a World Title

No disrespect intended to Omar Schaik. At 22 yrs of age time is certainly on his side.
Agree that attitude is a major part of a boxer's makeup.

World titles aside it would be great for Aust. boxing to see some of our talented young boxers eventually have some
success overseas.
Lenny Zappa, Jarrod Fletcher & Paul Fleming are just three who come to mind.

No mate, my Mrs was in hospital on Monday which kind of farked any plans i had of getting tickets at the last minute, she never came thru with the tickets as an early christmas present, should be upset but i'm not...still would of liked of seen Roy fight, even if it was for 122 seconds.

easily the highlight of the undercard. Good win over a solid US opponent. Not many of our prospects have that under their belt.
