SecondsOut mentioned this a while ago, but it's official now. Jawaid Khaliq defends his IBO welterweight title against Colombia's former WBO light-welterweight champion, Ener Julio, in Nottingham on September 20. The show also features a better match between Nicky Booth and Nathan Sting for the latter's WBU bantamweight title.
Julio, like Khaliq's last prospective opponent, Ray Oliveira, has only just moved up to welter, but was certainly no slouch at light-welter where he went 24 rounds with DeMarcus Corley (losing both 12-rounders) and won his WBO title with a fine decision win over the previously unbeaten Randall Bailey in 2000.

Good matches.

Nicky Booth vs Nathan Sting is pick 'em contest. Did Armour flatter Sting? Booth is not shakes on a world terms, neither is Sting. But both have performed consistently at this level for sometime.

I personally, don't like the way the Booth boys talk about themselves in the post fight press conferences. Its okay to be confident about your abilities. But when you've consistently lost everytime you step it up, then when they keep saying they are the best fighters in the world its starts to sound unrealistic and a tad arrogant.

But they have been through some well documented problems over the last 12 months or so, so I wish him well. I think Booth might just wear Sting down for a 10 or 11th round KO, in a dramatic contest cause I believe Sting will be booked for a wide UD at the time of the stoppage.

Fair play to Jawid, this is a good contest. Nice to see he's picking up the competition. My opinions of his skills and his chances of winning a geniune world title have been documented on this forum and as with his last fight, I'll be predicting a new IBO champion in this fight. If Khaliq keeps proving me wrong, then I'll have to start taking more notice and giving him a fairer crack of the whip.

Hare and Khaliq have picked up their game in recent fights (as far as opponents), lets hope Sinclair can do the same. If Khaliq wins then he'll go back to Number 1 in my UK rankings, moving ahead of Hare.

McCoy remembers watching Julios draw with Saul Duran, it was a great fight although not that many people spoke about it on the boards if McCoy remembers correctly

Also his win over big punching Randall Bailey was also very impressive considering Bailey was undefeated & had stopped every opponent he faced

Although there are a lot more dangerous fights out there for Khaliq, this is a decent test

Good knowledge, McCoy. Julio's fight with Saul Duran was a thriller and, yes, Bailey looked formidable when the Colombian took him on and beat him.

Yeah, I remember Julio vs Duran, if I'm not mistaken Julio was lucky that he didn't lose the fight. I think Holdsworth (who I find a good judge, although sometimes score Ottke's fights more widely then me, except for in the Mitchell fight) scored it confortably for Duran.

Bailley, is very strong but limited against a mover in his fight against Corely, but obviously he's in the world class bracket as he is a two time world champion.

Good match, Khaliq proves he is not afraid to step up in class and let's hope he can score a win here. Whether he does or not he must surely look to "unify" with Hare or Sinclair and provide us with who is best at Welterweight in Britain.

There's not much chance of this happening, Steve. Whilever they are making decent money from defending their "world titles" they don't need to risk their comfortable livelihoods against the other.

I don't mind there not being a big domestic clash in this weight, as long as Khaliq and the rest continue to face people of Julio's class and greater, the I'll be happy
