Is Boxing making a come back?! Especially the British scene.

Not long ago it looked like boxing was dying a death, but now i get the feeling its on the up.
Haye is in the mix, the super six tourney is on, Pac and PBF are going to fight, Khans starting to call out some of the big guns (JMM not salita), frochs a gimp, even domestic and european level fights are looking exciting - murray, harrison, sexton, rogan, afolabi, chisora, barker, gavin, de gale, el maachi. Hattons making a come back, mosleys a great, the klitsckos are about to get some exciting fights. Theres so many fighters out there i want to watch. Im even looking forward to watching fury so i can see him get sparked by someone.
Any thoughts?

Far from it, ITV have kicked it into touch (again) and some of the retards I speak to when a big fight does manage to get some media coverage proves to me its a long way from reaching the heights of the late 80's early 90's.

When MMA was starting to get popular there was plenty of talk about boxing being a dieing sport. This was very recent.
Boxing will never die in my opinion. It will just fluctuate in popularity every now and then.

Too much money in the sport as it is. It could do some good by losing some profile.

Haye, Froch and Hatton - Definately have the profile (for the right or worng reasons)
Ola Afolabi (A bit of a cheek to now claim him as British, but hey
![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
) - Very much underrated and overlooked.
James Murray and Sam Sexton have potential, not sure if its anywhere near world class, in particular Sexton but good lads nonetheless and i hope they do well. I'd probably throw
Georgie Groves into this group, too.
Marty Rogan - I think he has reached his plateau. However, the guy is a great 'entertainer', for sure. Ditto,
Anthony Small.
Scott Harrison - Is this guy even clean? Shame as he had some good wins and prestige. All ruined.
Derek Chisora - Untested (even though he stopped Sexton - Sexton has improved. Not sure about Chisora).
Darren Barker - Solid fighter, could go places.
Frankie Gavin and James de Gale - Both have great ability, but I just wish they were not aligned to 'Allegedly'. FW has a habit of not actually improving fighters. They all make a few bucks but never reach even close to their potential.
Amir Khan - The kid has talent and bottle but his promoter will just contend himself with milking this cash cow. which is a shame.
Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew - Both the chaps have potential and a fearless nature, which i like
Enzo Mac - Finished. Domestic level, at best.
Regardless of my opinions and others, without terrestial TV backing, there is a limit as to how far reaching these fighters profile will rise, Haye and Hatton being the obvious exceptions. Khan had the profile but its slipping a little further away with each passing fight.

Have you not read this weeks BN mate? last saturdays fight drew over 600k viewers on ITV4, when it was competing with X Factor and Strictly for the audience... ITV are looking at showing the Haye - Ruiz fight.... looks like Boxing may well stay on the box.

As somebody on here has already commented on another thread, that show wasn't competing against Strictly and X-Factor as it's a completely different demographic -if it had been up against an action film, for example, the result would have been far more interesting and it would have almost certainly struggled to win the same type of market share.
Unfortunately, the numbers game is a bit of a red herring anyway - if ITV could screen something that only attracted half the viewers but was a more compelling proposition for advertisers then they'd drop the boxing. It's all about the revenues unfortunately and boxing traditionally struggles to make itself a 'sexy' proposition for advertisers.

Its been a long time coming. British boxing has really boomed in the last few years, especially among the heavyweights. I'd rather watch British HW's than American HW's, because the American scene has been so depleted since Tyson, that there is no one single HW out there that you can name thats worth talking about. In the lighter weights, as well, it seems the best lighter weight fighters come from Europe or from latino countries. Americans just dont seem to have the initiative, the amateur programs, and everyone seems to just want to go for broke and go pro and fight bums and then jump into the elite. In Britain, everybody seems to fight everybody, good and bad, they genuinely build themselves up.

The Americans still have a lot more elite level boxers than Britain though, so they must be doing something ok.

I'd pick Hatton and Kahn over most American WW's and JWW's any day....
I'd pick Haye over 95% of the American HW's and CW's....

I was referring to overall but even at WW and JWW the Americans are strong. Mayweather, Berto, Mosley, Williams, at WW would all beat Khan and Hatton, at least Mayweather, Williams, and Mosley would. At 140 the Americans have Bradley who is regarded by many as the man at 140 now and Alexander, Holt, Diaz is now campaigning at 140 it seems, not to mention Campbell and up and comers like Pearson. Ortiz can still have success in the future as well. No doubt its U.S. > G.B. at 147 and overall they have more talent at 140 and more elite boxers in general.
