The year is drawing to an end so please cast your votes on who was the most successful boxer of 2009. I thought the obvious choices were Green and Katsidis, both with a few good wins and finishing with an IBO title and an interim WBO title respectively.

I'm a bit torn on this one. I rate WBO over IBO but with Green's win over Jones and the resulting publicity for Aus boxing makes this a tough one for me personally.

I'm guessing most will go with Green...?

Honestly if it wasnt for the GREEN v JONES JR fight, Katsidis wouldve been the popular choice

Next up Michael Katsidis v Amir Khan ?

Khan holds the WBA light welterweight title. He may want to sort out his fellow countryman Ricky Hatton who is rated above him by "Boxrec" in spite of not holding a title and being KOed twice in his last four fights.

That would draw a big crowd in Manchester.

Katsidis still seems to be able to make lightweight and holds the interim WBO title at that weight. If JMM decides to retire (he is 36 and has not been doing that well lately) Michael will be WBO champ.

I think next stop for Katsidis will be JMM. Katsidis wants it and the WBO will push it.

Brute, I don't know how you can regard JMM as on the outer. Recently took the Pacman to a split-decision and then fought Mayweather at welter. The latter fight, at such disparate weights (which would of been much more than the 2kg difference at weigh-in once Money rehydrates) was nothing more than a blown up exhibition fight and shouldn't have affected Marquez's p4p rating. He is still #2 in my books.

Katsidis-Marquez will be a very enjoyable match if it does happen. However, I think JMM is a class above and should take it.

Money Mayweather doesn't really cut much weight, he pretty much fights at his walking around weight. People are also always acting as if he was born a welter weight. He started at super feather and moved up, just like the other big names that are now fighting in and around welter. Mayweather isn't some giant picking on the small welter weights out there...

Marquez lost to Mayweather by a wide margin. He is 36, which is getting on for a lightweight. Nobody pays one fighter ten million and one 3.2 million for an exhibition.

Agreed, Money was previously a relatively small welter himself. The point being that a blown up Marquez only just comes in over junior-welter, whereas money fought DLH at light-middle. I doubt on the night that Money fought JMM, given the supposed problems with making weight, he would of been much under middleweight after rehydration. (We can assume after the 2 year lay-off his walking around weight is bigger than previously). I mean we all saw them stand side-by-side at the weigh-in and in the ring. Definitely a few weight classes between them.

Good points, but there's a big difference between a big margin against a bigger, defensive boxer and actually gettin hurt. I think the tell-tale point of the fight is Money not being able to hurt the lighter guy (albeit the 1 knock down where JMM showed no lasting effects).

I guess the next 12 months will be telling if Marquez meets Hatton or Katsidis, guys that will put the acid on.

After a bit of deliberation I went with Green too. Don't really count the IBO but because he slayed the legend.

A lot of talk about what next for Green, but what does 2010 hold for Katsidis? Hopefully a shot at Marquez? I think I read somewhere that the WBO will be pushing it, can't remember where.

I think it's Katsidis' best shot. Try and out muscle the great Marquez. I don't think Katsidis can fight the way he does for many more years. I've got a feeling he will fade quickly for his age the way he fights.

For what it's worth: Ring Magazine now has Green as their #8 Cruiser, Katsidis is #2 at light weight.

Can't see why Green is in the mix? Yeah, sure he KOd a LEGEND, but an over the hill legend, who IMO came here for $$$$$ & not to fight.

Katsidis hands down...

Green got 3 KOs but only one meant anything in world terms. Katsidis' results came against much stronger opposition, pound for pound, only Jones was by far a bigger name. I'd also rank Katsidis as more likely to win a genuine world title. Also, the SD against Escobedo should really have been a UD under sane judges.
