Chris Eubank: 'I never lost killer instinct'

You look at the opposition. Fights of mine that went the full duration through my career... I fought the hardest South Americans of a strong constitution, and slippery North Americans who were always out of punching range. Watson, in the Watson I fight, and Benn, in the Benn II fight; had superb defensive abilities that disenabled me to strike fatal blows.
Other fighters, like Henry Wharton, Collins, Thornton; these were some of the strongest, toughest fighters out there. Rest assured, I attempted to decapacitate these gentlemen as much as I did the next guy.
Thought that was interesting.

i certainly reads like it's from Eubank. Where's it from? I've read Eubank's autobiography. Probably the best book I've read.
in fact don't bother sourcing it. "Rest assured, I tried to decapitate these gentlemen as well"....couldn't have come from anyone else but Eubank.

I am a big fan of Eubank. Met him a few years ago and he came across as a really like-able respectful person.
Also I agree the book is a fantastic read.

Its odd he mentions the three guys who people highlight as "proof" he lost his killer instinct.
Whether it was a loss of killer instinct, fatigue, or just being weary - I think he could have stopped Carl Thompson. It might have been considered a controvesial stoppage (ala Thompson vs Nelson) but I think Eubank could have landed a few more flurries, then the ref would have called it off.

An Ex-wife and three kids proves otherwise. He is also a qualified secretary, so he was trained to be polite.
He did hold back after the Watson fight, he also stopped using the uppercut that he inflicted the injuries on Watson with.
Regarding the Bon-Bons story in his book, I remember it well; had me in kinks of laughter.

A poster on here(think it may have been K-G) said he met him years ago at some function and after a few drinks his posh accent turned into a much more common one.

Silly boy. He was a hard, hard man and a character who was the biggest draw in boxing. Who cares about the accent.
Now here is a fact ....
When he went for a passport photo at a studio on Oxford Street while at the height of his fame, the owner - not surprisingly - asked if he would have any problem with him putting a copy of the picture on the wall. Not at all, was the reply..... on one condition.
The condition was that it was displayed alongside a photo of Terry Thomas.
Similar background, affected accent etc etc.
Interesting. And true.

At the beginning of Eubank's career I thought he was a dickhead of the first order but as time went by you realised he was simply making headlines for his fights. Now his career is over you certainly appreciate him a lot more. The guy had skill and on more than one occasion showed he had the guts to tough it out when needed
Reminds me of Mundine actually re hyping it up, except Mundine doesn't have the wit or intelligence to make his comments funny or clever

Anthony Perkins had a wife and kids, but he was gay too. The guy from the Brady Bunch was gay and had wife and kids too. Marriage and kids dont mean much.
