I wasn't much of a fan of Amir to start off with, but he's won me over as well over the last few years. He oozes ability from every pore, he's a class act within the ring and he wants to fight the best...... what more can we ask for?

yeah good point. i mean Khan has been ready to face the likes of Pacquiao and Mayweather for ages now hasn't he? and the idea of fighting the likes of kotelnik/Salita in his 22nd-odd fight, well thats cowardice of the highest order.

why hasn't this fraud Khan fought pacquiao yet, thats what i want to know.

It's not Khan himself, its this "World Champion" flim flam that is frustrating.

Whilst he has had some great wins, it just seems that his route to the "top" has been stage managed somewhat.

That didn't feel like a World Title Fight on Saturday. The fact that Salita was "mandatory challenger" doesn't cut much- had the "mandatory challenger" looked more threatening, I'm sure that Khan would have been given a "voluntary defence" against a more "suitable" opponent.

Just my opinion, of course.

If he isn't "ready" to face the best in his division, then he shouldn't be classed as a World Champion, regardless of what belts he holds.

Simple.

I've never really liked him I thought he was very over-rated early and I didnt think he was going anywhere but since moving to Roach he has really improved and is really starting to look the part, No disrespect to Oliver Harrison who did his best but wasnt the man for Khan imo

Which I've got no doubts that he will do, but give him chance the lad's only 22 years old and he's only had 23 fights. If you already expect to him to have fought the best at this stage of his career then you've got unrealistic expectations IMO. The wins over Kotelnik (esp), Salita and Barrera are all excellent wins on a 23 fight boxers record

I suppose I'd like to see Amir in against someone who can bang like Maidana as he does seem to get a succession of pigeon punchers, but I expect Amir to be fighting some BIG names over the next year or so

Not really.

Consider Froch and Haye- there is no-one in their division that they would feel "not ready" to fight.

World Champion V World Champion fights ARE quite rare, but this is usually for reasons of money, practialities, boxing politics etc rather than because one fighter isn't "at that level yet."

You new to boxing? The situation you've described has been engrained in the sport for years due to the number of belts on offer. Were you expecting Amir to take on Manny or Floyd in his first defence?

it was Khan who brought in 4 belts per division was it? and he was the very first ever fighter to call himself a world champion when all he had was a belt?

is it khan's problem or merely a symptom of boxing in general we are talking about here? cos it seems to me you are hating the player when he never created the rules of the game.

i seem to recall nigel benn saying he was a world champion when he won the WBO off Doug Dewiit.

i assume at the time you were criticising him for calling himself a world champion?

saying, 'Benn has to fight roy jones before he can call himself a world champion?'

so, is what you're saying, khan can win a belt, but then when asked by media what it represents, he should say something like 'i am not a world champion, just a beltholder', should he?

are you suggesting he and his team should not do everything in their power to create a buzz around him, and raise his profile, and maximise his earnings?

bring out a load of teeshirts with 'Amir Khan wba beltholder'.

not being funny whicker or looking to pick a fight it just seems to me people point to khan when really what they have a problem with is deeprooted within boxing and knack all to do with the fighters.

again, what do you expect Team Khan to do?

Well, yes- a World Champion to have fought the best? What an odd concept!!!

I'm not knocking you, more the sport in general.

But once a fighter is holding a belt at World level, there really shouldn't be any more "learning fights."

Another example- Timothy Bradley- he beats Junior Witter, and from then on- he is mixing with the best in the division.

Should Khan fight Bradley?

Absolutly!

WILL Khan fight Bradley.

no.

I've mentioned above- most fighters, when holding the World Title, do look to mix it with the best in the division (quite logically).

Hopefully Khan WILL do that- but I can't see it.

I really would like to see Khan fight Bradley because I think he'll box his ears off.

I don't think Bradley would have white-washed Kotelnik and got Salita out of there in a round in the way Khan did.

Khan's chin is always going to be a question mark but at the same time he seems to have eradicated the sloppy mistakes that got him into such bad trouble in the first place and I think it's time people got off his case. The big fights will come, he wants them and then we'll see how good he really is.

 HE'S HAD ONE DEFENCE!!! Name me some fighters who've won their first World title then took on the best in the division in their first defence?

I can't understand why you're so sure that Khan won't take on Bradley

Why?? I think Amir's itching to fight the best

Are you expecting him to do a 'Calzaghe' and fight below-par fighters for the majority of his career?

Lets see him rematch Prescott first, then he'll get most peoples respect.

Khan has bags of talent and if matched correctly over the next couple of years could grow into a worthwhile champion. But he just does not excite me very much. I doubt i would even go as far as to cancel a night out with my mates if it clashed with a Khan fight. When the likes of Hatton, Naz, or Lewis fought, i'd have missed my sisters wedding just to see their fight :DD

That wasn't my point.

My point was that he has won a World Title without actually taking on any of the acknowledged best in the world at the weight. I did say right after that point that it was more a criticism of the sport in general.

As for Bradley- I'd love to be proved wrong.

ok we are closer in opinion than i thought

my mate asked me the other day what next for khan and who the other world champs were at 140lbs

i said my personal opinion was that Khan could do with another fight or two before fighting a bradley, regardless of whether he's actually going to fight bradley or not (he blatantly won't, IMO)

again tho to me its symptomatic and not khan's fault

nowadays some 'world champions' get their titles relatively early in their career and so have to be brought along relatively slowly at world level
