Khan vs Maidana - Khan to vacate?

BS.com has heard some serious talk going around the industry that Amir Khan will vacate the junior welterweight title if the WBA forces him to fight Marcos Maidana next. Back in June, Maidana stopped Victor Ortiz in June to pick up the WBA' interim-title at 140-pounds.
After the Ortiz win, Maidana's side was putting pressure on the sanctioning body for a shot at Khan. There was only one problem, Dmitriy Salita was the mandatory and his side was ready for an all-out legal war if their title opportunity was given to Maidana.
The WBA gave Salita the first crack - with a catch attached. The winner of Khan-Salita had 90-days to fight Maidana. I hear the sanctioning body will soon issue an order for Khan-Maidana. Khan, looking at major names like Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and the Diaz-Malignaggi winner - may have other plans in store for 2010.

With 27 wins and 26 ko's this guy is legit.
I noticed that Arturo Morua went 12 rounds with Ricardo Torres, 9 with Witter... yet Maidana ate him up in 3.
His one loss was disputed against Kotlenik 115-114 and after watching it on youtube, I can see why. Maidana was hammering him through the last rounds.

He can be dropped, as Ortiz proved twice - but he got back up and won by KO so has some minerals.
High risk / low reward for Khan ?

Surprise Surprise, khan not fighting a puncher and lining up someone who just came off a loss

I can only see Khan giving up the belt if he walks straight into another title fight or lands a name like Hatton or Marquez. With all the belts being taken I can't see him getting a title shot against a name he wants so its more likley he would like to hang onto his belt. Which means Khan would use Maidana as his coming out fight in America. If the WBA enforce a defense in 90 days I think Khan will fight Maidana. Seems a little harsh to me though, he's just fulfileld his mandatory challenge I would've thought he'd have earnt some breathing room now. At this rate he'll be fighting 3 mandatories a year.

It'd be a shame if Khan didn't fight Maidana, I think he has the beating of him. If it's not Maidana, it'd better be a decent alternative otherwise it'll look very fishy.

I'd love to see the Khan-Maidana fight, it's a proper trade fight IMO. If Amir skips this fight to take on a BIG name like Hatton or JMM then I suppose it's difficult to criticise him, although personally I'd prefer to see Khan Vs Maidana than Khan Vs Hatton/JMM, but if he avoids Maidana to fight a substandard opponent then he deserves whatever criticsm comes his way.
I can forgive Salita as a first defence as it's the norm, but I'm really hoping Amirs not going to cherry-pick his forth coming fights. We need to see him in with someone who'll come forward and who can bang to see how much he's come on since the move to LA

This fight is all about respect. If Khan doesn't take it we'll hear about it for the rest of his career.

I thought Maidana was fighting Devon Alexander next?

Maidana is very beatable, the only reason Ortiz lost to him was because he got involved in a brawl with Maidana and he admitted he fought the completely wrong fight and his gameplan was gone out the window after the first round. Freddie Roach would have Khan very well prepared not to get involved in a brawl but there is always a chance Khan could get caught with a wild haymaker from Maidana in the first few rounds. If Khan survived the first 5/6 rounds I think he would comfortably outpoint the Argentine. I hope this fight does happen, would rather see it than Khan-Marquez I think, plus it would silence alot of Khans critics if he wins including me.

I'd rather see Khan Urango personally. Think it would be a much better fight and would be a unification bout. Still don't agree with the logic behind back to back enforced mandatories with no breathing room either. That said, as I said in my first post, I think Khan will probably fight Maidana if its a mandatory if not he'll fight a big name instead. He still needs an alphabet or big name to make things legitimate.

They were in talks, but I don't think anything has been announced. I wouldn't be surprised if Maidana was persuaded to leave Khan's belt alone.

didnt Ortiz say "I'm too young to take this kind of punishment" after the fight?? The details are hazy but I remember having the feeling that Ortiz really didnt want it enough.

i think if khan doenst fight him & vactes to fight a bum.. then he deserves the grief
but if he fights a high profile figher for fat cash then..then why not
2 mandatories one after another is abit harsh considering he didnt win his belt vacant

also...if he beats Maidina then the usual suspects will come out with 'well he beat someone who was beaten by Kotlenic, backwards step !'
still want to see the fight thou

Yea thats what he said to Kellerman in the post fight interview but I read an online article about gameplan etc, maybe he was trying to cover his tracks or whatever. You could see from around the end of the 3rd/start of 4th that Ortiz didn't want to be there because he was after being pummeled with some massive right hands. The corner should have pulled him before the 6th round bell, they were telling him they were going to stop the fight if he didnt 'cop on' and it was obvious by the look on his face that he wanted the fight to be stopped but he didn't want to say it.

Ortiz was worried about the long term issues he might face if he continued. He weighed up the risk/reward and decided it would be better to quit.
He's sort of had a similar progression to Haye. Bombing people out, being the bully. The moment someone resisted it fell apart. He can regroup and come back much better. After the talk about him having a dodgy chin, I was impressed with how well it held up against Maidana. His chin is fine, imo.

Thing is, Khan will not fight Marquez or Hatton next if he does vacate.
The maidana fight has to happen in 90 days too.

Khan will never fight a hungry young banger again - that'll expose the 'comeback' for the sham money making exercise it really is!
Anyone see Khan vacating & boxing a spent Hatton or Witter type for a vacant IBO strap? The public don't know its a fake belt and its prety much bring-your-own-opponent so tailored to Amir's 'needs'..

ahh that was it. I remember he dominated the opening 2 or 3 rounds but then the wheels came off... I think Khan has too much speed for Maidana, I guarentee he'll last longer than Salita though
