Biggest strike against him is the fact that he's never been the world's number 1 Heavyweight.

I made a thread about this already. Whether people like it or not, yes, the man is HOF caliber material. I have seen men with lesser credentials make it into the ballot.

OK OK for those who feel he should be nominated I invite you to fill out the proper paperwork regarding his induction. Here are the official forms.

That's red herring talk, that final sentence. Two fvck-ups don't equate to a right.

If I had a vote I wouldn't send it in the direction of Ruiz. That said I fully expect him to get in. First Latino heavy weight champ + losing to RJJ will get him the nod.

Being a 2 time alphabet champ, and the first latino to become a HW titlist, is pretty redeeming considering he wasnt a true undisputed champion. If you recall, he could of had a shot at Lewis, but Lewis felt Ruiz was beneath him and threw away the WBA title rather than face him. Not Ruiz' fault he never got the chance to go for the true gold, not that he would have won or anything, but Ruiz is a guy who would fight anyone, any place, any time. His record shows that.

In an era where everyone seems to duck and dodge everyone and build their legacies on less than stellar opposition, Ruiz is a breathe of fresh air, even if he may not have been the victor against all of them.

Blow me Collins, because its the truth, heavyweights build themselves up on a bunch of softies these days and dont fight the fights that can truly test them. They want to get easy pickings and go straight to the top without doing real work. So fornicate off.

The vote is unnervingly close.

Ruiz would be an embarrassment to the Hall.

IMO, Ruiz belongs in there. If he beats Haye, which there's a good possibility he can, he will be a three time title holder, and would have beaten a great cruiserweight in the process. People dog on Ruiz and say he would embarass the HOF or doesnt deserve it, but I look at the HOF and see guys like Marvin Hart in there or up for induction. Its sad that someday Neon Leon Spinks will one day be the HOF and he has the worst record of any HW title holder in history---but you want to say Ruiz doesn't belong in the HOF?

Which big heavyweight showdowns have we missed out on recently?

PS the fact that you tell me to eff off merely confirms you are a blow-hard know-nothing bull-sh1tting clown, Rufus.

:D

It's damn ridiculous situation. Ruiz is pretty good on paper, he has defeated some notable opponents of his era, but we probably should take into account, how he did it and what era that was. To be inducted in the Hall of Fame you need to make some impact on the sport. For example, I've would have inducted Tommy Morrison or David Tua, who even had no World championship. Or Ray Mercer, or Tim Witherspoon. Their fights are popular even today, people remember and like them. That's the impact, I believe. But what about "the Quiet Man"? Ruiz fights sucked, his spoiling style even made it hard to score sometimes. Do such victories have a real value?

I had the pleasure of interviewing John once, what a cool dude. Needless to say, it made me a fan.

I don't even see how you could make an argument for him. His career is a testament to his perseverance and commitment to giving his best every time out. But, neither his skills or his resume warrant a place in the hall of fame.

He deserves better than how he is often perceived, but he is not a hall of fame fighter.

An overall perception of him is pretty natural. He could be a nice guy out of the ring, he could give his best in it, but his fights were absolutely dull.

If Byrd would have fought Ruiz.....one of them would likely deserve it....but no......not with the history as it stands.

I don't think a Byrd/Ruiz bout would've furthered either of their legacy's by much. It would've been a suck ass, close fight with lots of inaction and clinching. Not the kinda thing that people want to give you a plaque on the wall over.
