Carl Webb got his jaw broken in a game of football in 2007. Will that leave him with a weakness in that area?
He should stick to football.

All i know about him is that he fought Alex Leapai as junior amateurs(they were about 14 - 15 Yrs old) at about 64 kgs, But alot has changed since then......

Wishing Mr Webb well but hopefully he's not another gimmick-moonlighting footballer as a boxer.

Carl is a tough nut and every year in the polls, the other Leaguies reckon Carl is the one bloke not to tangle with. Unlike some in the NRL, he doesn't knuckle halfbacks.

I've seen this guy play league and like all forwards in the NRL he is tough as nails. Love to see him box because he has an amateur record makes him interesting to watch.

I saw Webb throw a few punches during an NRL match years ago. He through a sharp, accurate combination of 4-5 punches that dropped the other guy. Appears well schooled.

Saw Bob O'Reilly do the same to Cliff Watson in a World Cup final once. O'Reilly went to shake hands with Watson at the end of the game, Watson punched him, Big Bob laid Cliff out like a Christmas dinner. Couldn't have seen Bob boxing professionally, though. Totally different.

This will be another typical circus act on a Mundine card.
Webby will be flat out making it through 3 x 2 minute rounds without a spell on the bench.
Stand by Garry Gurr.

Gurr is fighting March 18th against a Rugby Rep from New Zealand! Will actually be a fairly evenly matched fight, Gurr is wanting to make a decent go of it in 2010 starts training in the new year currently is sitting at 109kgs on a diet of pies and beers!!

Gurr is not fighting an All-Black Triallist, surely not.
Gurr will be cactus!

We agree on something.
I couldn't believe it when Andy Raymond said he had some massive news and then read the media release from Webby...

Three months notice for a four round fight? In the 1970s you did not get two weeks!

nothing pisses me off more than listening to the evidence on the australian board that boxing in this country is a circus. why are you actually having a debate about this guy getting in the ring? just coz mundine did it and became successful at it, it doesnt mean every australian athlete could do well in the ring because "they threw a 4-5 punch combination" on the footy field....absolute bollox

its disrespectful to boxing that these guys think they can come across and do this....im sure katsidis would have played a bit of league at school, why dont the broncos give him a go.

Circus fights are good if they are evenly matched. Imagine Zoran the circus bear fighting Tank the grizzly from Alaska sort of thing. Gurr and the lot fall into that category. So hopefully they are matched circus-ly equally (if there is such a term)
Has anyone been to a circus lately? It can be entertaining

Disagree with everything u just said.
If promoters wanna sell these fights, leave them well away from regular boxing cards that boxing fans go to watch.
I don't wanna watch 2 spastics with no skill throwing hayemakers at each other until one decides he's had enough. If I wanna see that I'll go to YouTube and type in "drunken bar fight"
as long as there's boxing fans like you in this country then promoters will
continue to get away with putting together shit fights and thus pulling the sport further downward.

Are you saying you wouldnt be interested in paying to watch Gary Gurr slowerly fight his way through the NRL player ranks until his record ressembles that of Eric Crumble 0-33 all by way or 1st or 2ns round KO? So far theres been Carl Webb, Jason Williams, Wendall Sailor and Monty Betham linked to fighting Gurr, so hes really creating himslef a nic little niche market for fighting NRL players!!!

I did exactly what you said and went to YouTube
This is what came up

the "fight" was obviously shite..... but the conviction the guy shows with the car is excellent. LMAO

I feel your pain. Mundine has raised the profile of Boxing in Australia whilst simultaneously entrenching the perception it is a circus. However, Webb has decent amateur credentials, being I think a former National Golden Gloves champ. He is better credentialed then either Solo or Hoppa and could
possibly impact the domestic scene if he put some time into the sport. Him having a pro bout isn't in itself a circus act. The cringe-factor comes from being associated with a gimmicky Mundine undercard. In any normal circumstance a tough athlete with amateur experience would be a welcome addition to the pro ranks.

Actually, when Jeff Fenech retired from boxing and was looking at other options cousin Mario took him down to Souths for a trial. Apparantly it didn't turn out too well. I guess it sounded like a good idea at the time...
