Martin Power

Martin Power seems to have a lot left to make some noise in the Bantamweight division or even SuperFly division. He weighed bang on the Championship weight for Bantam in this non title fight tonight and looked much stronger and sharper than in his last few fights, looks like Power has a new lease of life. Impressed with his performance tonight :box:

If he can make Super Flyweight then I would think that a fight against Haskins would seem more winnable than a fight against Napa.

Anyway, well done to Martin Power. :TU:

Fair play to Martin, looked very sharp. From third round on he looked like his old self, the confidence seemed to come flooding back.

Yeah,Martin looked back to his self last night especially when he planted his feet and threw those right Hooks,he hurt Edmonds each and every time he caught him with it.

I didn't think Power would stop Edmonds as it was a 6 rounder but last night was really Impressed. Both Edmonds and Power were Bang on the Bantam Limit for a non title bout, which tells me Power can do S-Fly with Ease.Wouldn't it be nice for him to move down to S-Fly and Challenge Haskins for his British & commonwealth Belts,a fight i think Power would win.

Congrats Cuz. :TU: :TU: :TU: You boxed great. :bag: :bag:

Very True as Edmonds was Bang on 118 Lbs,Is Haskins Dropping down to Fly for a European shot ?

I would think so if he can get the shot as there is not much left for him on the domestic level at S/Fly. Unless Power drops down, or someone like Chris Edwards comes up in weight.

I think Haskins would actually win the Euro Title at Fly, there is not a lot of competition around at the weight in Europe.

Martin is never in a boring fight, remember many of his am bouts, funny enough, me and Brian Johns were talking about his war when we were at Aldershot yesterday against John Convey in the schools many moons ago, counts galore to each

Martin's eligible for the Irish title alright, I think Paulie wants to fight at 122 lbs however.
Which is a bit strange really as Hyland doesn't struggle that badly to make Bantamweight, but he just feels more comfortable at the higher weight and I don't think Martin is interested at fighting at Super-Bantamweight(nor he should be).

hello martin,
well done on your good win the other knight, it is great to see you back on good form.
i see afew chaps talking about your weight, ie are you coming down or staying as you are.

my small bit of advise i could give to you and everyone else thinking losing weight.
only lose the weight when you can do it comfortably.
it is best to be very strong at one weight then not so strong at another weight.

you know your body better then anyone else.
it is not worth getting down to a weight if you are not going to be at your best.

i am sure you and your trainer are working on different ways of making you stronger at your weight now.

as you know as a experience fighter, the weight dose come of alot harder as the older we get.

good luck for the future.

Decent comeback win for Power, though he was lucky not to have been DQ'd. Twice he nailed Edmonds with punches whilst he was on the canvas, lucky for Martin the referee was apparently blind to this.

The Punch's didn't connect Properly although the 1st time Edmonds gloves touch the canvas and he was about to spring back up,Power then threw a shot at the same time Edmonds duck back down.Have a look,i watch it again last night. But Power needed the win Badly so i could understand his efforts to finish the fight. To say that he should have been DQ is unfair.Edmonds was never on the canvas Proper when Power hit him.Although the Last right hook was beauty.

You could say that i'm bias and i am.........Just glad Power won.He hurt Edmonds everytime he planted his feet and made him do the funny dance.

Looked good. Not impressed with punching whilst his opponent was on the floor though.

I dunno, far, far greater talents than Martin Power have been DQ'd for smacking a downed opponent. I can understand his enthusiasm, but he twice got away with a blatant fouls and the referee was at fault for not doing anything about it imo. They seemed pretty clear cut to me. It wasn't a guy going down and being hit on the way, Edmonds was grounded and Power lined him up and cracked him with right hands. That they weren't absolutely devastating shots is beside the point.

Lets face it, Power's a pretty dirty fighter whose shown a disregard for the rules before now. I'll never forget the nut he stuck on Dale Robinson when they clashed.

But regardles it was good win for Martin the other night which prolongs his career.
