tipped by some to go to the top, smith doesnt look like he has that quality atall to me i feel he is severely overrated, quigley looked about as good a out and out boxer as smith did, what are your opinions on smiths ability and how far he could go if he got his act together?

British champion. A very, very credible level to reach.
Hope we see the Quigley rematch and its a cleaner clash.

i basically agree with you, at least to the extent that for some people on some forums a couple of years back, he was talked about as potential world class etc which i never quite agreed with.
but i agree with DP and think he will be around the british level for some time to come- esp. as i think he sells a fair few tickets.

Top bloke, still improving. Could be a very good fighter if it all comes together.

I believe he can go beyond British class though he has to prove that yet. I have absolutely no idea how you can argue Quigley was anywhere near as good a boxer as Smith. Quigley has his qualities but boxing isn't one of them. Scrapping and spoiling, yes.

i agree that potentiallly smith is more talented but i feel quigleys skills are underrated he competely dominated the battle of the jabs against smith threw more and land more, smith in no way outboxed him

i mean essentially smith was given ratings of talent above barker and others when they were coming up, think how easily barker would outbox him, it just seems strange that his reputation levels were where they were

A fight isn't all about jabs is it being honest? Styles make fights, ours didn't gel simple. It was scrappy and he was awkward and strong but the decision was correct and the result is all that mattered to me in a fight of that caliber, i.e local derby first title etc. I was expecting him to be on the back foot from the off, he wasn't, so I stuck to my boxing which I knew was better. I switched off in the middle rounds with the cut for reasons above, massive fight and a lot at stake, didn't wanna get stopped on a cut.
With regards to my hype and being over-rated, I've never once said that I'm going to be or that I am world class. I may be but who knows, time will tell. I've never said I'm going to be undisputed world champion or even a world champion, I've always said I'd LOVE TO BE and I will give it my best and see what happens.
So the hype and expectations are not my fault and they haven't come from me.
I have my fans and I really appreciate it, The Contender was great for my profile and maybe that's where some of the hype comes from, I personally don't see it as I see myself at the level I am at for now. People who know me will tell you I'm modest and realistic.... I read on here once that I was a miserable barstard!

I come across that way when I fight but most of the time I'm either never happy with the performance or It's just a 6 or 8 rounder and not to be carried away with. I'm not one to get excited at beating a journeyman with all due respect.
Someone did post at the time that I "take a serious job seriously" and that sums it up I think.
I'm proud being British Champion and I have worked for that since I was 9 years old. I would love to clean up domestically and go on to the world scene, God willing that will happen. There's worse fighters than me that have won world titles.... I think

I rarely post on these forums as the small minority just try to wind people up and such, but I do enjoy reading them and 90% of the people are really knowledgeable. But thanks for the comments anyway, good and bad they all get taken on board. Thanks again for the support to the people that do, all the very best to Boxrec for Christmas and a happy and healthy 2010

Again thanks for the critisism, but Barker is a middleweight and as nice a lad he is, his chin will let him down. Macklin stops him.

I think he's a very good fighter, euro level at a push but a very credible domestic fighter. Who will be a tough fight for anyone.

Classy post Paul, nice one.
I was at the Quigley fight and throught it was pretty entertaining! A couple of casual sports fan pals came too and they are keen on going to the Dodson fight so it can't have been too bad.
Ignore the daft minority on here, its always interesting to get the pro's like yourself perspective on things.

I like watching Smith fight.
There are far more talented fighters out there, who i don't like watching.
The winner of Smith vs Dodson should fight Magee after.
