The thing people fail to realise is that David Haye is from South London!

Yeah and those same people will hail murray and froch. In reality some people just love to hate those doing well. Anyone who says khan and haye arent two of the most most exciting fighters in the world right now are just lying to themselves.feargalocuinneagain wrote:x2 The Brits are an unusual breed to say the least!!!!!!!Deno1986 wrote:Looking in from a non-British perspective I always find it hard to understand why a minority of British boxing fans always have to knock Haye or Khan- the two British World Champions, even when Hatton was at the top he got stick. No matter what these boxers do or how succesful they become there is always going to be a lynching mob waiting in the wings.
Maybe I'm comparing it too much to Ireland where we only have a handful of decent boxers and if one of them are lucky enough to get a World Title shot they are representing our country on a World Stage and the whole country gets behind them whether they like them or not, for example a lot of people don't like Bernard Dunne because of his cockiness/arrogance but come World Title night these people are nearly in tears of joy when Dunne knocks out Cordoba. I couldn't understand how a minority of Brits were hoping Valuev would beat Haye just so they could say 'I told you so' or had smug smiles when Khan got knocked out 'claiming' they knew it would happen and bragging about it on forums.
The majority of British boxing fans are top class true boxing fans and support their fighters to the last but what I would say to the minority is one day Britian might have no World Champions and you will be saying I wish the glory days of Khan and Haye were back so appreciate them while you have them at the top.
That's true though!"That David Haye, he'd never match up to a peak Tyson."
indeed ala me backing froch and haye vs foreign opponants but backing mayweather and pacman against hattonbanjo wrote:If I like a boxer then I support them, if I don't like them then I don't support them.
I don't feel the need to support a boxer just because he comes from the same rock as me.

I appreciate that and shows that there is a difference between the thinking of the two countries. Do you like Khan and Haye as a matter of interest Banjo? If not do you think that if one of them was from the same area as you would your support for the fighter increase or does your quote still apply?banjo wrote:If I like a boxer then I support them, if I don't like them then I don't support them.

After watching vitali against johnson i honestly think haye will destroy him. He got caught by that left jab too much and he only seems to know two different punches - left jab / straight right. I dont think he's ever even heard of an uppercut.Rocky Balboa wrote:That's true though!"That David Haye, he'd never match up to a peak Tyson."
I wil say, however, that Haye will prove to be the saviour of the HW divison. Klitschko vs Johnson was not a fight, it was a waltz, a dance, a pathetic show of what was supposed to be Boxing! The fans at the Arean got conned, simple!
Haye will do either Vitali or Wladamir, it does not matter who it is imo!
Shortly after the final bell on saturday night, who saw Johnson go to Wladamir? Wlad looked like he was panicing for a bit there!

i like most brits when they fight foreign fighters . most but not always , but i do remain unbiased although i do admit that being from nottingham originally has some bearing as im sure similar would apply to some others on this forum , what i mean is that although i like to remain impartial ill always back froch and jason booth as us nottingham folk like to back our own , youll struggle to find a froch hater in nottingham , but i do see his bad points whereas some of my freinds wouldnt .kingfinn wrote:After watching vitali against johnson i honestly think haye will destroy him. He's going to have real trouble against a fast, creative, aggressive fighter that can actually bang and is going to be looking to knock him out.
Haye will slip vitalis jab all night long, well until round 5 when he knocks Hammerstein out!
But back on topic - i personally support champions i respect as a tallent, usually british because i get to see them fight more often. However id like to see kessler do a number on froch, he's the type of fickle british hater we're talking about. Disrespecting other british champions and passing comments on fights he hasnt even watched.
but vitali probably won't have much trouble against a wet fart that wafts around the edge of the ring without doing anything for 90% of every round before finally going on the attack in the final three minutes.kingfinn wrote:

x2 generally, only thing I was quite dissapointed with Vitali was his lack of accuracy. Johnson was quite slippery, but was no great shakes. Vitali struggled to hit him clean.... First time I've seen Vitali in his comeback actually start to fight like a 38 year old.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Precisely, if Haye was that circumspect against a lumbering non puncher like Valuev, then what's he going to do against the far more aggressive Klitchsko? Valuev hardly threw anything, and yet Haye spent almost the entire fight with his back to the ropes doing laps of the ring.
Even the ineffective Johnson probably landed more shots than Haye or at least close to it, and he was completely shut out by Vitali.
on the other hand, klitschko isn't 300-pounds and over 7 foot. it's a different physical matchup and maybe haye will be more aggressive. also, valuev was haye's first fight vs a big heavyweight following about a year off. all ringsiders had haye a comfortable winner, so he got his tactics right for that particular assignment.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Precisely, if Haye was that circumspect against a lumbering non puncher like Valuev, then what's he going to do against the far more aggressive Klitchsko? Valuev often wears his opponents down with his mass and stops them late, that's where his big advantage is - my belief is that it was that Haye was trying to avoid, rather than being terrified of getting hit. He didn't give him the chance to hold at all.Autobarn wrote:on the other hand, klitschko isn't 300-pounds and over 7 foot. it's a different physical matchup and maybe haye will be more aggressive. also, valuev was haye's first fight vs a big heavyweight following about a year off. all ringsiders had haye a comfortable winner, so he got his tactics right for that particular assignment.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Precisely, if Haye was that circumspect against a lumbering non puncher like Valuev, then what's he going to do against the far more aggressive Klitchsko? vitali is old, has lost twice on injuries, hopefully the fight happens, and if haye doesn't win, hopefully he scores some damage so the next fighter with some ambition and talent can finish the job.
Valuev is not an inside fighter, and he has a far lower stoppage ratio than Vitali. Vitali is a bigger and better puncher.TheDrowningMan wrote:Valuev often wears his opponents down with his mass and stops them late, that's where his big advantage is - my belief is that it was that Haye was trying to avoid, rather than being terrified of getting hit.
