Ener Julio ain't fighting Khaliq

Ener Julio won't be fighting Khaliq on September 20 in Nottingham - and probably never was. Matchroom are doing a lot of this nowadays: announcing a big opponent (two in this case, Khaliq, we were told, was originally going to be fighting Ray Oliveira) and then coming up with some pathetic excuse as to why the fighter ain't coming over. Normally he's suffered a last minute injury or has visa problems. To me it's a good way of drumming up publicity for a show, but it's all a bit tiring. Mickey Duff's mob did this all the time in the 70's and 80's. The amount of big names Frank Bruno was originally fighting was quite hilarious. None of his scheduled fights with Greg Page, Alfredo Evangelista, Trevor Berbick, David Bey or Mike Weaver came off. David Bey, the press were informed, had been injured in a street mugging in the east end. Yeah, right.

Damn, McCoy is pissed off
McCoy was looking forward to seeing a competitive fight, something that is becoming increasingly rare nowadays
McCoy has a feeling that Khaliqs next opponent will be some eastern European non-puncher who probably fights at a smaller weight

Damn it sounds a bit like the Calzaghe vs Telesco and Calzaghe vs Joppy syndrome.
If the excuse is geniune (I haven't heard anything direct that its off) then fair enough. If not (and how can we ever prove if its not), then I hope there some kind of refund for the fans paying to see Khaliq in a very difficult contest.
Another trip to the bookies down the drain (was going to place a bet on Julio).
Annoyed.

I'll find out more tomorrow about Khaliq's new opponent (if he's fighting at all), but it ain't gonna be Julio. He's not even in the country. You'll be glad to know that Nathan Sting is here.

Oh well at least the Booth brothers are in proper fights.
Julio would've probably beaten Khaliq anyway.
