I'm halfway through it. It's a decent look at his career but is pretty slight and seems to be an amalgamation of press reports and interviews from throughout his career. Upto now it hasn't revealed much about Hearns the man.

Another good book :-

Superb. And worth the price for the picture of Hagler with hair alone.

I remember taking Ryan Barrett who I think was 15/16 at the time For Tommys fight at the MEN Arena, into the dressing room to meet Manny Steward and Tommy Hearns, as I knew them anyway, I thought ryan would love to meet him, which he did, and the funny thing, as we were leaving Tommy shouted 'Dont forget my video Eric!!' classic stuff!!

Tommy was all power and heart. To this day, I don't know how he dragged himself up against Hagler.

I felt the same, I enjoyed it but it doesn't relay much. Four Kings is fantastic tho'.

Incl' the 2 above I've read 5 since Christmas, adding King Of The Gypsies, Atlas and Becoming Holyfield.

All are great, but the Hearns book is definitely the lightest of the 5.

I'm gonna buy the Holmes book and Dark Trade today.

Does the Hitman mention in the book about meeting me and Emerson in Vegas, surely a career highlight?

Eric is actually telling the truth though, most people would kill for his experiences

Apparently, Hearns did not like his "Hitman" tag because of the high murder rate in Detroit.

Not bad, but you can't beat Hit Man Hearns, one of the best and most accurate nicknames ever I'd say. Not just his lights out hitting, but that stare he had too.

I got hooked on boxing watching Tommy's KO of Cuevas on TV while I was staying in the states, then had to buy the Ring mag when it had Hearns on the cover in his hitman guise, a few months later.

I looked at the book in the shop the other day, and yes it looked a bit lightweight.

The Larry Holmes one mentioned above is terrific. Holmes tells it like it is/was, as always.

It was like something off rocky how he managed to get up in the hagler fight although he was out. Was bought up on Hearns by my old man, and only in last couple of years having rewatched old fights, that i have started to appreciate tommy's hand speed, boxing ability abd movement, rather than his power. Tommy a true great.

I've just read Boxrec's own James McDonell's Charlie Magri book, 'Champagne Charlie'. I started to follow boxing a little after Charlie's time but met him recently and wanted to find out more about him. A great read. I've also just received my copy of Oliver Jarrett's book on Kirkland Laing which I'm really looking forward to reading.
